Reseña del editor

Just seventeen, Lady Caroline Faye is already the toast of the Season and accustomed to the ways of genteel Society. So when notorious cad Sir Montagu Reversby offers to drive her in his phaeton from London to Sevenoaks, she innocently accepts - little knowing that he is planning to fake a broken axle so that she will be forced to spend the night alone with him at a remote country inn. But Lady Caroline of made of sterner stuff than the predatory Sir Montagu imagined. Escaping his lecherous clutches, she finds refuge in the imperious Brecon Castle only to discover that her new-found haven and its master, Lord Brecon, harbour dark and terrible secrets. A murderous plot is afoot and Caroline's innocent mistake will come back to haunt her as heartbreak and humiliation in the dark, foreboding castle turn to hope and then ardent, all-consuming passion.

Biografía del autor

Barbara Cartland was the world’s most prolific novelist who wrote an amazing 723 books in her lifetime, of which no less than 644 were romantic novels with worldwide sales of over 1 billion copies and her books were translated into 36 different languages. As well as romantic novels, she wrote historical biographies, 6 autobiographies, theatrical plays and books of advice on life, love, vitamins and cookery. She wrote her first book at the age of 21 and it was called Jigsaw. It became an immediate bestseller and sold 100,000 copies in hardback in England and all over Europe in translation. Between the ages of 77 and 97 she increased her output and wrote an incredible 400 romances as the demand for her romances was so strong all over the world. She wrote her last book at the age of 97 and it was entitled perhaps prophetically The Way to Heaven. Her books have always been immensely popular in the United States where in 1976 her current books were at numbers 1 & 2 in the B. Dalton bestsellers list, a feat never achieved before or since by any author. Barbara Cartland became a legend in her own lifetime and will be best remembered for her wonderful romantic novels so loved by her millions of readers throughout the world, who have always collected her books to read again and again, especially when they feel miserable or depressed. Her books will always be treasured for their moral message, her pure and innocent heroines, her handsome and dashing heroes, her blissful happy endings and above all for her belief that the power of love is more important than anything else in everyone’s life.

HASH(0xa167e5dc) de un máximo de 5 estrellas Barbara Cartland's Best!! 31 de julio de 2010
Por Igloo Chick - Publicado en
I have been in love with A Duel of Hearts ever since I was 10 years old. It was made into a movie and as soon as I watched it it became my favorite movie. My mother lost the movie in a move and I have been trying to find it on DVD ever since. I still can't find it :( But because I couldn't watch it, I decided that I would read it. And I am so happy that I did!! It is fantastic! And it made me a Barbara Cartland fan. I started to read a lot of her books. I still think that this is her best. It actually has a plot and it takes Caroline and Vane more than two pages to fall in love.

Excerpt from inside front cover:

"For a long moment, he gazed at her little face, framed in the window of the coach. 'Goodbye, sweet Caroline... and thank you,' he said. 'It has been a thrilling adventure,' she said softly, and the moonlight gleamed in her eyes. She held out her hand to him. But he bent his head to her parted lips. Unable to move or protest, she could only yield to the sudden strength of his embrace... then the coach was off, speeding her into the night. Back to safety she would go, back to respectability, back to a world without the one man she had come to love."

I find it difficult to rate the story itself because I was so distracted by the multitude of punctuation errors. I am not exaggerating to say there are punctaution errors on every page of the book, especially the insertion of completely random commas. The result is that the book cannot be read without frequent hiccups or interruptions that require re-reading sentences to determine the intended meaning.

This book is great. I enjoy all her books for light hearted reading reading material. Barbara Cartland has a way of describing this period of time that resonates as you read. It is easy to picture yourself there as you read. The book draws you into the world described.

Fun, light, seemingly borrowed from georgette heyer -- so much from the reluctant widow -- but good light romance. Must be one of her earlier books since its a bit better written. The race and class distinctions are eye opening

B Cartland's books are easy to read & enjoy. She never strays from her genre which makes her books good reads. They are refreshing change from sex & chaos.
