not disposable for completists.... 11 de septiembre de 2007
Por Robert Brant - Publicado en Amazon.com
Formato: CD de audio
This is not a rip-off dub cd, but rather, an actual long player from the 70's that is part of the king tubby legacy..is it as good as "prophecy of dub" or the sides from "the dub organizer"?..No..but it is hardly disposable for hardcore fans...i don't seem to be as bothered by the sonic quality of a lot of vinyl to digital transfers but it does seem to matter to a lot of people...the occasional crackle doesn't bother me..in fact, i like it!

Disregard the 1-star review if you aren't a dub novice 26 de marzo de 2008
Por Ryan Hunt - Publicado en Amazon.com
Formato: CD de audio
3.5 Stars.

Much like the second reviewer said, this is NOT a rip-off cd, it's a real LP from the 70's. There is some good dub on here for those who have dove into dub a little deeper than some. Good heavy thumping bass, good mix of horns, keys, guitar and vocals. And as far as the sound quality goes, sure there's some hiss of the actual vinyl (which some really like), though it's not noticeably present the whole album or to degrees that detract from the music at all, especially if you've heard some of King Tubby's Declaration of Dub or even some of the Prophesy of Dub or a number of rare dub releases. If you've listened to some really rough sounding dub (usually more rare releases) then this won't sound that bad at all.

Now that being said, sure there is much more "essential" dub out there if you're new or even fairly new to the genre, but for those who's collections are deepening/expanding this is a fine addition.

An obscure classic 21 de febrero de 2013
Por Todd Kray - Publicado en Amazon.com
Sure, sound-wise the music is sourced from all over the place (from what I know, none of these B-side dubs are from original master tapes, as they no longer appear to be available)and it clocks in at a little over a half-hour, but I think that this is actually one of the most consistent "non-best of" Tubby sets available. These are rarely, if ever reissued dubs of some fantastic and fairly obscure African Bros. cuts, and the dub versions serve to heighten the sweet and sharp vocal harmonies that emerge from the wild, yet very organic mixes (Tubby lays off the sound effects and works with re-shaping the original tracks only). The riddims are terrific and even for hard-core Tubby fans, there's probably at least a few that you haven't heard before, lending a real sense of freshness and discovery to the set. If you don't mind some scratchy vinyl here and there (some of the tracks actually sound quite clean as well) and want to hear some truly fantastic and rare dubs, I highly recommend the disc.

great king tubby early vinyl transfer for younger sugar minott & tony tuff 30 de julio de 2009

i like this album alot. if you like dub i think you will too. the people who want pristine do not understand that at times like this lower fidelity sometimes is overshadowed by what is playing . for me it is like a time machine transport back too jamaica early in the seventies what with the crackle coming from the dj booth along with some BIG TUNES. i was lucky to go to jamaica as early as 1968 and i have loved the high points of it's musical output from the 60's to the 90's primarily. these are rare and expensive if you collected them (if you could find them at all) as vinyl. afro bros sugar minott and tony tuff's younger voices over some booming dubbed riddims? = it's irie, i'll take it mon.........

Excellent dub 14 de abril de 2010

I just picked this up on vinyl. Sure, the sound on some cuts is sub-par, but certainly not unlistenable. However, the dub is first rate, and well worth the price. I'm loving it.
