I strongly recommend this excellent new collection of stories. Dave Pescod's a really interesting writer, partly because he trained as an artist and is also a film-maker, so he has a very strong visual sense. If you're interested in his writing you can view the film that was made of the title story in the collection, All Embracing, which has been shown at film festivals in Europe and the US. One of my other favourites from this collection is Rising Laughter, which was broadcast on Radio 4. It's a touching and funny account of a woman's attempts to cure her husband's depression.
I loved these stories, not just for their engaging, pared down writing style, but because they are so moving. Pescod writes honestly and eloquently about every different kind of love, even the grudging affection between a lonely man and his dog in another powerful story, Wishbone Duty. In my view this collection is an instant classic.
