ALIEN EVASION, by China Miéville
"The octopus understands that the point of invisibility is to fail. A just-glimpsed beast-shaped burr - now that catches the breath."

BEARLIFT, by Margaret Atwood
"Mountains are very large and high rocks. No, those are not mountains, those are buildings, way over there..."

BREAKING THE FALL, by Paul Graham Raven
A new breed of survivalist is preparing for the imminent collapse of Western civilisation.

IN AUTOTELIA, by M. John Harrison
"By the time we reach the main square, most of us are, if not exactly marching, then shambling in time to the music."

SIR JOHN SCHORNE'S DEVIL, by Simon Ings
The shipping container has ushered in a more ordered world - but at what cost?

WHAT HPAPNES FI IT ATCLLUY WROKS? by Sumit Paul-Choudhury
In Shane Carruth's time-travel film Primer, throwing out cause and effect still has consequences.

TOPSIGHT, by Hannu Rajaniemi

MAKING THE FUTURE, by Justin Mullins
When one of the world's biggest technology firms wants to know what to build next, it turns to science fiction.

THREE SURPRISING THEORIES ABOUT SCIENCE FICTION, by Adam Roberts

More than a speculative magazine, Arc explores the very process of how we imagine our sciences and our futures. The magazine shies just clear of completely relativizing science and science fiction--and succeeds in producing a truly engaging, and often tongue-in-check, kind of creativity that I find incredibly thought provoking. This magazine deals with fact, fiction, and the worlds between where we do most of our thinking (and probably living, too). Surprising, engaging, and exciting.

I'm not sure what I was expecting. I enjoyed most of the short stories, could not understand the need for moody black and white photography ( on my kindle ) within the articles, and found said articles worthy but dull. However, I might just subscribe, because it must get better, that's if the future is even going to be a contender.

Short stories, and /or discussions of what might come.
Several are real good, some are not so. But nonetheless something that leaves you to think about.

These are, in strict order of weirdness: (1) consensus, (2) extrapolation, (3) historical analogy and (4) "generating paths to futurity". "e;

Politics is merely the mechanism by which we decide who eats and who starves: a brutal calculus concealed behind the prestidigitations of politicians and economists. "e;

We dont know where were going, and we dont know how well get there. There are no maps, the brakes dont work, the drivers blind and the doors have no handles. Enjoy the ride. "e;
