5.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas A great book to help all levels of skiers 19 de junio de 2012
Formato:Versión Kindle
Sometimes I find 'how to' books very dry, and easy to put down. Thankfully this is not one of those books. The conversational style with which Mr. White writes is engaging, and entertaining. And, after all, isn't a recreational sport supposed to be fun?

The concepts are easy to understand, the analogies are useful, and the secrets are applicable to all levels of skiers. As a writer myself I applaud the person who actually puts pen to paper, or fingers to keyboard and gets it done. So many people have great ideas, and there are great teachers out there, but sitting your butt down, and cranking out a finished book should be applauded. I'm not saying that every single book published is a work of art. I'm not saying that Mr. Whites book should win a Nobel Prize. What I am saying is that the book is useful, and informative, infused with a bit of wit, humor, and genuine enthusiasm for helping people get better at skiing.

I have recommended this book to my friends who want to get better, and I'm recommending it on Amazon for the same reason.

Good information for any level skier. I think best way is to read or skim entire book and the go back and start over. I am an upper level skier(ski whole mountain except EX), but I was back working on 1st secret this year. This book is packed with information - too much to just read once. You need to read, ski and reread.

5.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Great skiing tips! 5 de febrero de 2011

This book provides great tips for improving skiing technique at all levels. I suggest taking notes or highlighting as you read it as it is quite detailed. Book provides exercises that help understand basic fundamentals such as balance and correct body positioning. Love the $100 bill trick! Anyone trying to learn any sport should read page 25. Deals with the rewards of enduring a learning curve. To me - the most important page in the book. Great reading for students and teachers alike. The fact that the writer learned to ski as an adult is very important. Section on overcoming fear really great! Some instuctors who learned to ski as children don't relate to that very well and don't remember the learning curve at all. Would love a video to go along with the book.

Toes up!

5.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Skiing in Words, I thought it couldn't be done...I was wrong...again! 2 de febrero de 2011

So here I was, visiting the new Four Seasons in Vail to listen to my friend Don Watson perform in the Lobby Bar. Great music, I couple of Beers, some Olives, and 3 hours of fun and sing-alongs. There is this book on the table, and being a Ski-bum myself of 20 yrs in Vail, I read it while we all listened and sang. I was not to sure that some could explain, especially the subtleties of weight transfer, tipping the skis on edge, etc. Skiing is a sport, like most, of mileage and form. The way Chalky explains it makes sense and allows me to use his words to help my non-ski-bum friends, as I am not a teacher. I would recommend this book to ANY skier, beginner to expert, to hone in on the subtleties of skiing. Read, this, refer to it, and most importantly get out there and SKI!!!
