Descripción del producto

Descripción del producto

"A no-holds-barred thriller plot with a sense of the ridiculous, lacing nastiness with some delightfully black comedy" - The Big Issue Scotland

"You really can't afford to miss out on this" - Ray Banks, author of Sucker Punch and Beast of Burden

Coffin Dodgers is a fast, funny and fat-free thriller that's been compared to Christopher Brookmyre, Colin Bateman, Tim Dorsey, Carl Hiaasen and the films Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead.

Eighty is the new thirty. Nobody's having babies, the old massively outnumber the young and the hip crowd has become the hip replacement crowd. Twentysomething barman Matt Johnson would be bored senseless if someone wasn't trying to kill him.

When Matt isn't playing silly pranks on his elders with his colleague Dave or laughing at Dave's dating disasters, he's trying to summon up the courage to ask best friend Amy out on a date. Then Matt narrowly escapes a car wreck, and he discovers that his accident was no accident. Someone's murdering young people, and dozens are already dead. Can Matt, Amy and Dave stop the killings? The answer involves guns, gangsters, an angry bear and plenty of irate pensioners.

WARNING: do not read this book in public if you're easily embarrassed, as *everyone* looks at you when you start sniggering to yourself.

Coffin Dodgers is a very well-written, extremely funny book which I thoroughly enjoyed. It's very pacy, but that's a good thing because I couldn't wait to find out what would happen next.

Matt and his friends are easy to identify with, in fact I very quickly began to feel like they were old friends. Or at least people I might have got drunk with once or twice :)

There's mystery, danger, humour, murder, and even some romance - but I'm not going to give away the story, if you want to know what happens you'll have to buy the book. And you should. It's really good.

But I did get some very strange looks - it seems people think you're weird if you're sitting by yourself and you suddenly burst out laughing?

More, please...

This was a terrible read and I really wonder about the positive reviews it has gotten. I think someone may have gotten all his mates to review... Everything about this book was underdeveloped.

The main character is also the narrator. Most of the action occurs around him and his two friends, who stick together through thick and thin. But the reader never finds out anything about him that makes you understand why his friends would be friends with him and why they are all so loyal. And his friends are equally shallow. Although the girl (and love interest) is described as fantastic, she never does or says anything that would make you understand why she is fantastic.

The world seems to be occupied by only 7 main characters and they all remain flat as a pancake. It leaves the story feeling empty and sparsely populated.

The 'hilarious dialogue' consists of a few one liners in the conversation between the main characters. They are good, but often feel forced into the situation. It also becomes quite predictable.

The book starts off with a premise about a lack of young people in the world due to some sort of mishap, potentially an interesting situation. However it then completely fails to follow through on this in its description of the world the characters live in, other than the lack of young peoplle being a motivation in the main story line. Everything else about the world still seems to work the same...

So, an interesting premise for a book, and it could have been good, if an editor had ever looked at it and worked with the author.

I really, really enjoyed this. Laugh out loud funny, strong characters and a great story.

Set in the near future, but in no way sci-fi territory (phew), Coffin Dodgers is a robust comic thriller that follows Matt and his pals trying to convince a disbelieving copper that someone is out to get him. That's 'get' as in 'kill'. Why should this be happening to him in a world where the young are already in a dwindling minority? They're going to have to figure this out by themselves...

Pacey, well-written and a real page-turner. Recommended. And look out for the chase scene in the casino!

I loved this book. It was so funny without trying too hard. The author is a good writer, and he does a good job of developing his characters. I'm really hoping he writes a sequel to this book because he left me hanging a little. I will definitely be reading other books by this author when/if he has anymore. :D So, what are you waiting for?? Buy his book already. It is definitely worth the under $2 price tag.

For only a $1.29, its well worth the money and time to read.

This is a Sf-nal thriller that borrows from The Children of Men and Halting State (Ace Science Fiction), with significant dashes of Chris Brookmyre and Carl Hiaasen. With this set of characteristics, I've either intrigued you or scared you off.

The premise is that something has stopped human fertility from naturally occurring. But IVF does work. And two of our protagonists (Dave and Matt) are IVF kids. The demographic changes are staggering, and I suspect would be fascinating to explore further. Still, its an odd mix of US and UK in the setting and might have been better served by more clearly drawing from one source or the other. Specifically, armed police and regular police being armed.

Still, its a good book. I enjoyed reading it. I enjoyed the characters, though I suspect I'd have been more like Comedy Jim in the book than our fun loving bunch.

Look, go out and buy this book. Read it and enjoy it. The interesting characters outweigh the odd bits of world building and make it worthwhile.
