This is one of the better, more interesting refashioning books.
It is photographed and styled beautifully in the way Japanese pattern and fashion books usually are.
In fact, perhaps a bit too pretty as I'm sure the black and white photography in the first half of the book makes the sweatshirt makeovers appear extra elegant. If I have one complaint it is that for these designs to really take on the elegant appearance as represented in the book, you can not use any old sweatshirt you find at the thrift shop. Your materials should be in pretty good/ like new condition to start for the sweatshirt makeovers. However, the interesting variations on mens dress shirts and ties in the second half of the book are far more thrift store/ used clothing pile friendly.
Overall, the refashions in this book have an edge on many other books of this type. These are very chic things a younger person or adult can wear with individual flair and style. Even if you don't plan on making the projects, you may really appreciate the clever pattern manipulations. As someone who sews, this book gave me some nice ideas! That alone makes the book worth buying and a very cool add to a sewing library.

I ordered this book without super high hopes, expecting unwearable "art" garments. That said, I was very pleasantly surprised with the number of perfectly wearable incredibly inventive things to sew - so much so that I raced out to my nearest thrift store for large men's shirts. The directions provided are extremely clear, I would think even for newer sewists. This would actually be a pretty fun book to encourage teenagers to begin "inventing" their own designs. I highly recommend this book.

This book is delightful. The photos are wonderful, the individual line drawings for every step required to make the garments are wonderful, the models are adorable, and the garments themselves are unlike anything that could be found in most stores. I say "most" stores, because I don't travel much anymore and don't shop much in departments stores, but the places I've been in the last couple of years had nothing to equal what I see in this book. I'm an experience seamstress and tailor, but I feel that, with attention to the step-by-step drawings, probably anyone who is interested in sewing could make these unusual, amazing garments and would be pleased with the results. If someone did learn to sew by working their way through this book, by the time they finished, I'll bet they would have ideas for garments of their own design using other thrift store and hand-me-down items. I highly recommend this book to those looking for something different to wear and a sewing challenge.
