This manual is a simple concise step by step descriptive instruction manual on how to deploy a Drupal 7 site. It is one of the best bargains out there. I wish David would write manuals like this one for each of the main modules available for Drupal. specifically one for UberCart. On a simpler note, one about the core Book module, the addon Views, panels, CCK, Google Analitics, and so on. As a matter of fact most of Google stuff is a disorganized array of stuff that works really well, better than anyone can imagine at first. Written in the style of this manual it would be a major assist to Drupal users.

I'm new to Drupal and I found this book a valuable asset. For those who are new to Drupal and want learn the basic nuts and bolts of installing, creating, editing and maintaining a website via Drupal, this book is for you. The language isn't too technical and it's easily understood by anyone. This book is a great primer and I highly recommend this one.

I have written a lot of html in my time, and I am familiar with css, although I always have to look up the tags. When I was tasked to renovate a website that had been done several years ago with a lot of home-grown css classes, the advice I got was to do the new site in Drupal, since some themes would also give us a better site for smaller devices.

I looked at a bunch of tutorials that assumed, mostly, a vocabulary that I didn't have yet. Modules? Nodes? Blocks? Wha...? This little book starts at the beginning, with the installation of Drupal 7 (which, luckily for me, I didn't have to do, so I don't know how good this section of the book is), and then walks the reader through all the basic building blocks of a Drupal site, from downloading themes and modules to figuring out what to do with them. David Ipswich assumes no prior knowledge, which was exactly my situation. I greatly appreciated the numbered steps, leaving nothing out, in the techniques for creating various pieces of the site. I imagine that some people will feel talked-down-to, but it was exactly what I wanted, documenting every single keystroke, defining every Drupal-specific term. Initially, I blindly followed his steps in creating the pieces of a site, 1, 2, 3, and after a while they started to make sense and I could see the larger whole. There was a lot of "Oh, wait... I get it!" during this process.

I eventually needed more than this little book could give me, but what do you want for $4? It got me through the first bewildering stages, and gave me the background and vocabulary I needed to find more advanced help. Now my organization has a boffo new website and I have new skills. Can't beat that.

I don't know why all the literature about Drupal is so badly organized. I bought a downloadable PDF book from Drupal itself whose first chapter dealt with how one can maximize search engine accessibility for Drupal sites. What I really wanted to know was how to make a starter level website, using Drupal. In other words, Where do you go for Themes, how do you access the CSS files, and then how do you set up the modules.

Drupal is hard to use compared to WordPress or Joomla. I am more of graphic designer than a programmer and, while I am making progress, I am still at the tear my hair out stage. I hate to spend a lot of money on another book that may be just as confusing as what I have seen so far. Drupal 7: step by step is, 1, affordable and, 2, not badly organized. There may be better books, but they are much more expensive.
