Descripción del producto

Descripción del producto

From Dictatorship to Democracy was a pamphlet, printed and distributed by Dr Gene Sharp and based on his study, over a period of forty years, on non-violent methods of demonstration. Now in its fourth edition, it was originally handed out by the Albert Einstein Institution, and although never actively promoted, to date it has been translated into thirty-one languages. This astonishing book travelled as a photocopied pamphlet from Burma to Indonesia, Serbia and most recently Egypt, Tunisia and Syria, with dissent in China also reported.

Surreptitiously handed out amongst youth uprisings the world over - how the 'how-to' guide came about and its role in the recent Arab uprisings is an extraordinary tale. Once read you'll find yourself urging others to read it and indeed want to gift it.

I have been a fan of Gene Sharp ever since reading his seminal work, "The Politics of Nonviolent Action", back in '73. This work cements his reputation as one of the most important figures in the study of nonviolent political action. It is no accident that it was instrumental in influencing the February 2011 Egyptian Revolution. In simple, straightforward prose, Sharp lays out a primer on how to bring down autocrats. Indispensable to anyone who wants to change the world through nonviolence. Buy it!

I came across Gene Sharp after supporting a kick starter project - "How to Start a Revolution". It's mind boggling that in the current climate his works are not more widely studied and promoted. It's a nice title for the Kindle as it is sharp, short and well written and is a real page turner.

Investigation performed by Gene Sharp and all the team in the Albert Einstein Institution is very important for people pursuing democracy using peaceful techniques and avoiding any violent action against authoritarian and dictatorship governments. This book provides an introduction and provides guidance to many other resources needed to understand how to be organized and how to act.

This is the best explanation I've heard about the non-violent struggle.

It's not only because of "love" or "compassion", it's because judging from the power gathered by both sides, any violent struggle will easily be crushed down by the regime.

People who don't want to use violence as a mean to overthrow a regime would sometimes be labelled as coward, this book offers the best defense for this strategy.

Arrived from the UK in a reasonable timeframe (14 days to California) without damage. Classic book on the value of freedom vs. the agenda of power hungry dictatorships. Regimes can fall peacefully because of democracy's true power to benefit humanity! Although free PDF is available at author's web site, this classic is worth having to complete a library.

You never know if the PDF will always be available and accessible if Heaven forbid America falls into the clutches of a dictatorship! This could become the black market book of the century.
