Descripción del producto

When Michael Anderson wakes up from cryo at a distant alien star, he has no idea how cold and alone he'd feel. No idea, that is, until his sole mission partner starts to die in the thawing process.

Twenty light-years from the nearest human being, cut off completely from anyone who could help them, Michael must act quickly to save her—but if passing through cryo is like passing through death, what does that mean for those who come out alive?

A 3,500 word excerpt from GENESIS EARTH. Won first place in the 2009 Mayhew short story contest at Brigham Young University.

Vasicek is brilliant at two things, I've found. One, he's great at making his science fiction elements believable and real, and two, he's great at suspense. There's a reason why this story won first place. I would say more...but I belatedly realize it's a short story for a reason. Go read!

I can't wait for the novel to be released! :D

3.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas I really wouldn't want to try cryo, but love reading about it 29 de agosto de 2011

I didn't think I'd like this story when I first started reading, but as it turns out I really enjoyed it. The man's description of slowly going to sleep as the cryo process was carried out was quite interesting and made sense, whether it could be done that way or not. It's quite believable. Being 20 light years away from the nearest human wasn't appealing, though.

The male space traveler seems to have no problems waking up and thawing out as he is supposed to, but the severe headache is one part that he doesn't like. It's when the female, Terra, begins to wake up that the problems start. Imagine having medical problems with only two people on board the space craft and no medical help is available and the closest help is 20 light years away. It's a scary, panicky thought. I won't write any spoilers, so you'll have to download this story and read it for yourself to see what happens.

Even though this story is science fiction, it's written in a way that is very believable. If a scientist told me this is how you freeze and thaw someone in space, I'd believe him/her. I would just like to know a bit more about the characters and what is in store for them.

I would not call this a short story. Perhaps it wasn't meant to be but that's how it was marketed. When I got to the end I thought there was some kind of error on my device as it just ended out of the blue with nothing resolved. I hate it when I'm reading a book, interested and taken up by the story and it's over so abruptly. I kept rereading the last few paragraphs to see if I missed something important. Turns out I didn't. That's just the way it ended.
