Descripción del producto

When Chastity Slaughter, only daughter of Nevada gubernatorial candidate Trent Slaughter, is kidnapped just days before the 1882 election and all signs point to demon involvement, soul hunter Jim Mercantile is called in on the case. But to Jim's expert eye, something about the kidnapping just doesn't add up. Why is the local demonist being so cooperative? Why are the hostiles, who have a centuries-old animosity towards everyone, suddenly cavorting with blood enemies? And what is the governor's involvement in all this? As Jim probes deeper, he finds that the answers are far more insidious than a simple kidnapping, and if Nevada is to survive, it may require of him the ultimate sacrifice--his eternal soul.

What would happen if you blended together Spaghetti Westerns like- "The Good, The Bad And The Ugly and the "Harry Potter" genre with a sprinkling of some good `ole Sunday School teachings into one grand adventure of a good read? Well, the answer is- you'd get author John Rhoades' "How The West Was Saved". And that would be a mighty fine Fantasy-Western adventure full of Blessed six-shooters and Wizards empowered by the Holy Ghost and Sorcerers fueled by the fury of ancient Demons.

"How The West Was Saved" is good fun- a Christian themed Western no less. And NO, a Christian themed Western is NOT a dull, preachy, fall-asleep-in-the-pew kind of tale. The story is refreshingly original; inspired no doubt by the old cowboy stories where the Good Guys are good guys, with just a bit of the Bible in them, and the Bad Guys (and Girls) are darn tootin' stinkers that just might be redeemable if they weren't such darn tootin' stinkers!

The main character, young James Mercantile, is a risible, earnest hero protecting the souls of good folk and ghosts alike from bad buckaroos and Demons in the crooked, pie-shaped State of Nevada. James' "side-kick" is his horse Typhoid, a wry, insouciant comic foil. (You will love Typhoid!) And the two of them seem to be always trotting nose-first into deadly trouble and supernatural mishap. Now with that said- no good western story worth its silver spurs is replete without a damsel in distress and James Mercantile is calamity bound in trying to rescue the daughter of a rich rancher.

Good etiquette dictates that I not reveal much of the story in my review of this book. And I won't. I fell upon this book by providence and it was a wildly, unexpected path from the first page. I encourage you to read "How the West Was Saved". Find yourself a nice cozy spot,( and maybe spittoon nearby), and enter the World of the Soul Hunter James Mercantile- and that being a mighty strange Nevada.

Read "How The West Was Saved"! Have your young'uns read it!
