Descripción del producto

What do you get when you mix magic & lawyers? More than you bargained for.

Lani's family has magic. Her friends have magic. Even the plants in her community are magical.

But Lani's powers never manifest, and she's tired of feeling like the odd one out. So she goes to law school and does her best to fit in with the non-magical world.

Too bad her first client is a geeky vampire. And her second client is an evil sorcerer. And her smoking hot one night stand doesn't remember her name.

If Lani survives her first week of work, she's gonna seriously consider a career change.

No machine guns or bombs. No vampire beheadings or stakings. This is a nice, rather short urban fantasy. Lots of magic and a couple of romantic comedy subplots to go with evicting a rather vicious slumlord. Not too deep and really no conspiracy stories or great mysteries. Just a pleasant little romance adventure. There is enough there to start a series.

While this book has absolutely nothing to do with the Harry Potter series at all. It answers a question that some of us have been been wondering since we read the Harry Potter books. What if someone from a Magic using family doesn't have any Magical abilities? In this case they grow up and become a lawyer.

This is a wonderful and hilarious first book. There were a couple of uneven spots, but the overall book itself was so good that I had to give it 5 stars. I especially loved it when the main character went and bought herself a car... while wearing a T-Shirt of Truth. Or her paralegal part Fae Cousin... Who wont answer the phone cause she doesn't trust technology.

Overall, I hope this author writes another book in this series, and I wish that it was available in in a traditional bound copy.

Even though she can't cast a spell, heal with her hands or magically enhance plants, Lani has grown up in a world of magic, surrounded by magical beings. The story begins as Lani, newly graduated from law school and having just passed the bar gets ready to start her job as a first year associate at a law firm with no ties to the supernatural community. As Lani begins work on her first case at work, the more she looks into the facts of the case the more suspicious she becomes of her client. She finds herself relying on her knowledge of magic and her magical friends to uncover the truth.

Lani, her family and her friends don't always have a firm understanding on how the normal world works which lays the groundwork for some amusing situations.

The author did an excellent job of world building and created an array of interesting and well thought out secondary characters. If you like your urban fantasy dark and violent, you probably wouldn't enjoy this book. On the other hand if you are a fan of H.P. Mallory, you should enjoy this story.

I only wish I had a place like the Cakery to hang out at.
