Can the Church delegate theGospel to the government?
Can the Church depend upon coercive powers to be the guarantor of Biblical values of charity, love of neighbor, fairness, generosity, shelter and nurture? Can anything but the Holy Spirit make us free?

Is Caesar Our Savior? says no.

Jesus Christ commands His Church to be the instrument of freedom in the land. He grants His Church authority to serve all people. That call cannot be abandoned without inviting oppression. Is Caesar Our Savior? calls the Church to resist asking Caesar to make this world better and brighter and join Jesus in making all things new.

"These will be the ways of the king who will reign over you: He will take the best of your fields and vineyards and olive orchards and give them to his servants...He will take the tenth of your flocks, and you shall be his slaves. And in that day you will cry out because of your king, whom you have chosen for yourselves..."

- From 1 Samuel 8
Eric puts his hat in the controversial and often combative ring where God and government spar. Provocatively yet with a pastor's compassionate heart, Eric throws down the gauntlet summoning the church to be the church in a broken, fearful and needy world.

- Tom Nelson, Senior Pastor, Christ Community Church, Kansas City, MO
Is Caesar Our Savior? is an outstanding book that will challenge you to be salt and light to those around you. Eric Laverentz is a gifted writer who will encourage you to make financial choices that will matter for all eternity.

I heartily recommend this book.

5.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Can the Church delegate the Gospel to the Government? 'Is Caesar Our Savior?' says no. 22 de mayo de 2011
Por J. Stoecker - Publicado en Amazon.com
Formato:Tapa blanda
Is Caesar Our Savior? explores the pattern of government dependency and ultimately oppression in the Biblical witness, highlighted by Israel's desire for a King and God's warning that the King would oppress them and take the very best of their work and property. This same pattern is shown in recent history where oppressive governments have often followed a weak and ineffective Church. As the Church in America has accepted a cameo role in keeping the land, we struggle with an ever-expanding government that increasingly seeks to form hearts and minds according to their own conception of fairness and justice.

The author has framed this argument through three underappreciated and unyielding truths that exist at the intersection of government and Gospel. 1. ) A weak Church is not the victim of an evil society. An evil society is the victim of a weak Church. 2.) Oppressive powers are aided and abetted as the Church refuses her call to live out the Gospel. 3.) A Spirit-filled Church is the best hope for a free society.

This is a thought-provoking treatment on the subject of social justice from a Christian perspective. Laverentz makes the case that the rise of government influence is the result of the Church of Jesus Christ forgetting its call to care for the needy among us. Perhaps the greatest threat to our civilization isn't the expansion of government but the failure of the Church to be salt and light, allowing the state to assume responsibilities Jesus left to His followers.

Is Caesar Our Savior? provides a very clear challenge for us (followers of Christ) to be faithful to Christ and to cease building our own kingdoms.

The question is simple, is it God or Mammon? If it is God, we then become stewards of the land and keep it free. If it is Mammon, we are on the slippery slope of debt and ultimate bankruptcy. As they say on TV, it is just that simple.
Eric is an excellent writer and frames his argument with Biblical and common logic, that many miss because they are too busy making money and not looking to how they can save their souls.
