Legacy Universe: Wandering Man (A Short Story) [Versión Kindle]

Wandering Man by Martin Perry is a short story set within the reality of the Legacy Universe series. Although it does reference aspects of the larger series, you don't have to have read them in order to enjoy this story which is about a young man's yearning for a larger life than is permitted to him and his people.

Jerris is a youth of the Issit village, a tribal group once living a free but hard and primitive existence,now supported on a reservation by the interstellar corporation PurKore, receiving food and cultural improvements in exchange for access to their planet's natural resources. Jerris watches the PurKore vessels leave his planet many times a day, and longs to travel with them to other planets, to learn more about the universe and to have adventures, perhaps become a hero. One day he breaks with his village and begins the trek to the PurKore installation, guided by a stolen computer tablet and his dreams.

This is a well-crafted story, the characters have depth and believability and the storyline is a classic telling of the journey of self-discovery and how it can also be the story about how one fits into the journey of others'. I would have given this 5 stars but there are some grammatical and spelling errors. The author should do a thorough proof-reading as this good story is diminished by poor editing.
