Great Soundtrack That Isn't Getting Fair Reviews Here... 19 de noviembre de 2008
Por Jalen Anthony Krupa - Publicado en Amazon.com
Formato: CD de audio
Alright, so I almost didn't buy this album due to the (almost all) negative reviews posted here on Amazon. Thank God I did, because this is a wonderful CD. My goal in the next few paragraphs is to offset the bad reviews and give you a better understanding on whether or not to purchase this CD.

Let me first start off by giving you three reasons to add this to your cart. Number 1: If you or your kids liked the movie. Number 2: If you are a Hans Zimmer fan. Number 3: If you are a Will-I-Am fan.

My soul reasoning for purchasing this CD was that I collect Mr. Zimmer's soundtracks, (44 including Madagascar 2). For the reviewer who asked, "Hans Zimmer, where are you?" How about tracks, 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 9, 10, 12, 13, 15, 16 and 17? Are you kidding me? There is plenty of Hans Zimmer on this CD! Track 1 (Once Upon A Time In Africa) has a fantastic (almost four minute) orchestral piece; Track 2 (The Traveling Song) is a fun Hip Hoppish song with Will-I-Am vocals. Track 3 (Party! Party! Party!) has a great tribal beat with vocals similar to the vocals used in Lion King. Track 5 (Volcano) is an amazing Electronic/Dance piece with orchestral strings... All Hans Zimmer and all are a great listen!

This is of course just a tip of the ice burg here, as I haven't mentioned the other 13 tracks. Hopefully you get the idea here, this is a wonderful sequel to the pre-existing Madagascar 2 soundtrack. Remember, the soundtrack that only featured 4 Zimmer tracks? That was sad although "Zoosters Breakout" was worth the price of the entire CD.

In summary the Madagascar 2 soundtrack features 7 Hans Zimmer instrumental pieces that in my opinion are worth the purchase. You even get Barry Manilow's "Copacabana" and Boston's late 70's hit "More Than A Feeling". 2 classics and a solid Zimmer score with fun Will-I-Am vocals make this soundtrack a worthy album for Zimmer collectors and all Madagascar movie enthusiasts!

This CD Makes Us Want to "Move It Move It"! 8 de mayo de 2009

My three year old daughter cannot get enough of the songs from Madagascar 2: Escape 2 Africa. I was tired of putting in the DVD Madagascar - Escape 2 Africa (Widescreen) just so we could hear the songs, so I went searching for the soundtrack to the movie. After being unable to find it anywhere in my town, I ordered it from Amazon.

The songs on this CD make us giggle, as we dance to the music and try to recreate the hip hop hippo's dance moves. If you have a little Madasgascar fan in your house, this will make a great purchase. It gets them out from in front of the TV. You can't help but want to dance and sing along.

My personal favorite on the CD is "Big and Chunky," featuring Moto Moto and the adorable hippo, Gloria.

Hans Zimmer, Back to Africa 27 de febrero de 2009

Hans Zimmer has done some of his best work when the focus has been Africa, one way or another. In many ways his breakout work was his collaborative effort on "The Lion King" and he produced a fine score for "Tears of the Sun." His return to this geographic genre, his music for "Madagascar" and its recent sequel, "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa," has been largely underappreciated however. Both soundtrack albums must be viewed from two perspectives. First and perhaps foremost, they are both a good deal of fun. Both films make broad use of updated renditions of popular songs and music (including tributes to Ennio Morricone) and this is well represented on both soundtracks. Second, they both make use of the inexhaustible talents of Hans Zimmer. The drawback to both soundtracks, however, is that they include a bare sampling of Zimmer's original scores. Zimmer uses a basic package of themes that appear in both films, but clearly he makes best use of them in "Escape 2 Africa." His main orchestral theme goes through a multitude of transformations in this film from playful to triumphant and really quite epic in the film's climax. It even becomes a vocal to great effect. Sadly, much of Zimmer's best music in "Escape 2 Africa" is not on the soundtrack album. Just a quick thought...a "score" album? Nevertheless, "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa" is simply a gas. Well produced and nicely packaged by Interscope Records.

I like to Move it Move it! 18 de noviembre de 2008

I liked both of the Madagascar movies. I took my 4yr old twins to see Madagascar 2 at the theater and they loved it. We all loved the music. I didn't think you could do much to I like to Move It but Will.i.am put his own spin on it and took it to another level. I didn't know you could make that song better but he did. If you prefer the original "Move it" then I suggest you buy the first Madagascar soundtrack.

You have to like hip-hop, R&B, a little rap and a lot of soul music in order to enjoy this soundtrack. Music is the universal language and the gang did land in Africa after all. The soundtrack also takes in the consideration that the gang is from New York and just left Madagascar. they wanted reinvent the exploration process and discovering a new land that also meant new music.

To be honest I didn't like The Traveling Man song the first time I heard it in the movie. I was not impressed but as the movie went on and the song developed more the more they traveled through the storyline. By the end of the movie we waited until the last of the credits were off the screen, the music stopped and the lights came up before we left the theater.

I've seen a bunch of trailers and the making of the movie for Madagascar 2 the song Will.i.am was asked to contribute: "Traveling Man" has a story of its own that is special to Will.i.am. This song is all throughout the movie and gets a little better every time you hear it. If you like other stuff Will.i.am has done then you will like this soundtrack. If you liked the music you heard in the movie then you will like this soundtrack. If you are disconnected from the "soul train" (yeah I dated myself) then just wait until they make various types of soundtracks.

Hans Zimmer's Follow Up Score Is A Fun Listen While Some Of The Songs Fall Short 4 de noviembre de 2008

Hans Zimmer returns to score Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa and while we only we have a very few tracks of score on this album there is some good stuff. We are definitely getting a wider variety of score this time versus last time. The opening track "Once Upon A Time In Africa" (a title homage to Ennio Morricone) sets up the score. Zimmer fans will instantly recognize the Zoosters' Theme from the last film and that serves as the main theme this time around with some different variations on it.

There is a great track called "Chums" that has fellow composer Heitor Pereira on the guitar and providing very soothing vocal accompaniment to the "Best Friends" theme. The most notable track for me is "Party! Party! Party!" because it's such a trademark Zimmer sound. It's an African vocal track utilizing electronic beats, but for me it was such a great listen because it reminds me of that Zimmer sound that has developed from A World Apart back at the start of his career. Some of the tracks have a "dance" feel to them by really using synthetic sounds but it's a great fusion.

The songs written by Hans Zimmer and will.i.am are hit and miss. I didn't really enjoy "The Traveling Song" but I loved what Hans did on "Alex On The Spot" by laying those vocals to the Zoosters' Theme which ended up being something amazing and a great finish to the album. "I Like To Move It" isn't the same without Sacha Baron Cohen singing it either. Overall there are 1 or 2 songs that miss the mark slightly but the others do have a nice beat and for a younger audience it keeps the energy up. I can't say the songs are particularly memorable except for Hans' remix of The Traveling Song on the track "Alex On The Spot". Also, the little Morricone homage with the Polka Version of The Good, The Bad & The Ugly will give a nice chuckle to score enthusiasts.

Overall a great (if very short) amount of score for Zimmer fans and fans of the first film with some okay songs to support the album. The CD is also Enhanced and includes music videos to "I Like To Move It" and "She Loves Me" both performed by will.i.am. So, really only recommended for Zimmer fans and fans of the movie.
