Nobody's Fault [Versión Kindle]

"Nobody's Fault", was an enthralling story. I didn't want to stop reading it, but everyone needs sleep now and then. The next morning, I reached for the book with one hand and my first cup of coffee with the other.

The structure of the story was such that when each point-of-view change came along, I was that much more driven to keep going. Those last-minute twists were unexpected, and cleverly done. I've already picked up Ms. Tyler's next book, but I'm saving it until I know I'll have time to finish it in one sitting!

Oh my gosh. This is so not my kind of book- I read fantasy and historical fiction, romance if it has one of those elements. Contemporary fiction never catches my eye.

I also don't tend to get Indie books without a lot of reviews unless they are right up my alley- I have been burned by quid pro quo reviews too often.

This book was on a free book blog, though, and caught my eye because I am long time married with older kids like the focus of this book. I also liked the idea of focusing on the consequences of love, not just the flowers and hearts.

I just read it in one setting, and wow- what a story. This author has a talent for characters, motivations, and changing things up. Just when you think you understand the situation based on one person's viewpoint, you find another story entirely from someone else's. It You start to think you know who the good guys and bad guys are, then you wonder. Which is the entire point of the book, I guess.

Anyway, it follows a man who leaves his wife after meeting his true love. He does what so many men do, leaving his wife and children so he can follow his dream unburdened. Is he the bad guy? But the ex wife takes it badly, doesn't take care of business, and the suffer. Is she the bad guy? The other woman is just love struck, no bad guy there. The author purposefully lets you in on details about the people that make it impossible to see them as either heroes or villains.

In the end, I still hated the dad for abandoning his kids, and thought he was a philandering jerk, but saw why his paramour loved him anyway. And then ... well, read it and find out!

I liked it!
I really enjoyed this rich cast of characters. It's a well worked theme, the one of marital affairs, but this novel approaches from a slightly different angle.
It acknowledges the effect on each individual person within the family circle and beyond, creating a believable and insightful narrative, and the story is moved on by a different point of view chapter by chapter. Rather than make it over complicated, the format held my interest right to the very last page.
As well as the knotty relationship angst, there is a touch of mystery sprinkled throughout with Sharon's story, and a touch of crime drama added via Lee Spinks.
Nobody's Fault has a chatty chick-lit feel to it, but the book has another layer within it's well thought out plot line, spanning some four years. There are some very funny passages blended with the drama, which is a personal favourite, and I liked the way the author had a firm handle on all the threads, drawing them slowly to a satisfying conclusion.
