What a Wonderful World!! 16 de mayo de 2013

I found this series by accident and have fallen madly in love! I was so excited when this book came out today that I gobbled it up in a matter of hours. Warning: these need to be read in order, as this is book #3 of a continuing storyline.

This book picks up where the last one finished and our lovable, take-no-crap Rylee ends up across the big pond trying to solve yet another supernatural issue.

The same lovable cast of characters is here - Alex, Evie, Faris and O'Shea are all back with the additions of some new preternatural creatures that seem to be joining Rylee's home for misfit shifters/witches/harpies.

I love the world that Shannon Mayer has created and I love Rylee's personality, the size of her heart, and her ability to find humor in the face of bad situations. Ms. Mayer made her so relatable that I'm pretty sure I'd beg to be her friend if she existed in real life!

I cannot praise this book enough! It is a fast-paced story that doesn't have a bunch of "filler" just to increase page count. Every scene has a purpose and every interaction sets us up to further develop the story and/or relationships Rylee is making. There is little interaction between Rylee and O'Shea in this book, but some of his thoughts about her make me swoon and I cannot wait for this relationship to flesh out more!!

Thank you, Shannon Mayer, for sharing your world with me! And to fellow readers, you will love this series if you give it a shot!

Great characters, great story, great series, too short! 16 de mayo de 2013

As the third installment to the series, I have to say that I'm completely hooked. Rylee is a kick butt heroine and the entire cast of characters are fun to read. The mystery is not only entertaining but unique and the overaching plot simply pulls you into wanting more. These books are fairly short, this one again being under 180 pages, but as I mentioned in my previous review, the pages are not wasted. There's plenty of development, action and drama and I'd take a read like this any day over pages of descriptions, angst, and inner dialogue. For those of you who haven't read the first two, this is not a place to start. The book does not waste time reintroducing characters and summarizing previous books.

The series picks up after the events of Immune and starts with Rylee's world in utter turmoil. I don't want to give spoilers but to say, Rylee immediately has to deal with much loss and betrayal. Liam O'Shea has run off, her best friend Milly is not what she seems to be and the FBI Arcane Division needs Rylee's help to track down missing children in London. Rylee doesn't think she can handle the emotions she'll have to deal with tracking them down but the FBI's ace in the hole is that they will bring her to meet another Tracker like herself. Unfortunately, this tracker is dying and Rylee has a small window of opportunity. Overall, she's completely stunned to learn she's not the only one of her kind, so she accepts the job and finds herself up against some very powerful adversaries from both sides of the pond.

These stories are pretty much non stop and action packed. Interestingly enough, since the location turns to London, I couldn't help but notice that Riley said "bloody" and "bugger" quite a bit and it seemed a little off since she's American. Aside from that, most of the characters are back, but some in limited and heart wrenching capacity. In addition to harpies, trolls, demons, vampires, daywalkers, ogres, witches, and werewolves, we can now add druids, necromancers and zombies to the fold. One of my favorite characters takes a back seat in this installment which led to my slight disappointment, but great new characters are also introduced. The mystery of the blue socks is also revealed. While the book unfolds two major plot threads, only one is brought to it's conclusion and the other is to be continued. The only thing I can say is, I won't complain as long as this author keeps writing these books as fast as she does. It's a fantastic series and I'm looking forward to future installments and a much desired reunion.

Horrible Language And No Professional Editing Ruins The Entire Series 26 de abril de 2014
Por Twelfth Night Reviews - Publicado en Amazon.com
Formato: Versión Kindle
I enjoy the storyline, but CAN'T STAND all the cussing. F-bombs flying everywhere constantly as if readers appreciate or enjoy it. Who in the heck does this woman think she is? A flight attendant knocks on the bathroom door of a plane and asks Rylee if she's alright. So she tells the flight attendant to eff off? Rude, rude and unacceptable. No one does that.
All and every other cuss word invented appears on every page and gets really really tiresome. Author should know that it's not cute, not funny and very distracting from the story being told.

The best comedians, are the ones who can write the best clean jokes because they are the most difficult to write. Anyone can swear and cuss up a storm, but it's not funny and there's no need for it in a book. Rylee can be strong, assertive and tough without lowering herself to gutter trash.

This writer CANNOT continue to expect or charge $4 a pop for books that have not been touched by a professional editor. Terrible mistakes in these books along with sentences where you can tell the author changed her mind about phrasing something and when re-typing, accidentally left extra words in the sentence that should have been deleted.
ONE of my favorite parts was where Jack tells Rylee a guy named Brin trained him but Brin's been dead for years so Rylee say's "Great, I'll look him up when I get home". Lol
This was a serious statement made by her. I laughed my head off. It would have been caught by an editor. Can't go looking up guys dead and gone now can ya?

I always feel sad for people with some talent that refuse to perfect their work and think self-editing is acceptable. Go for it if your books are free, but don't expect people to pay you, when you won't pay for editing. I'm refunding this book and the one before this because of way too many typos and mistakes. I only pay one or two dollars more for famous authors and their books are near perfection; not this stuff. Please edit your work and cut way down on all the swearing. It's not needed and readers would much rather enjoy your talent for supernatural stories......not a trashy novel.

In this 3rd book of the series, Rylee travels to England. She has been betrayed by Milly and is seeking the last known tracker besides herself to see if she can learn more about her abilities. Her loyal team of Evie the harpy and Alex the Werewolf are with her for this adventure. It is another fast-paced well-written story in the series.
