My husband and I are considering raising a pig or two on a new farm we're establishing. I've been reading through sources on the internet and from our state's land grant university. I happened upon this booklet while ordering another.

This booklet is a good primer. It covers many of the topics and questions I have as a "considering pigs" new farmer. I especially appreciate it was written by a woman who's been *exactly* where I am now. As we have large wooded areas on our property, we will pasture the pigs in a more natural setting, as did the author. So, for me, this booklet is like an on-paper mentor.

Regarding the couple *very negative* reviews...

1) This booklet is a primer. It does not claim to be a comprehensive or encyclopedic guide to pig farming. Quite frankly, as a beginner, I want someone to show me the path they successfully took so I have a model to emulate. That is far more helpful to me at this stage then reading through every nuance and nit-noid of a subject when I'm just starting out.

2) I am a self-professed grammar zealot. This book is self-published and easily readable. Are there a couple commas missing and a spelling/grammar error or two? Sure. It happens to the most polished authors and big publishing houses! I commend the author for sharing a wealth of information and experience at an affordable price for homesteaders. Please don't let those vitriolic comments deter you from this purchase if you are a beginning homesteader or contemplating trying to raise pigs. It's worth the price.

I learned alot, and it was very detailed. The chapters were well written. They made it sound easy and I liked how they explained how and why you did not want to raise too many pigs in one area.

Very informative information, should be extremely useful in the future. Some very yummy sounding recipes to try. Nice relative stories to go with it.

As a complete beginner to raising pigs, I thought this book was very informative. It isn't a "complete" book by any means, but it is a good introduction with all the basic info I wanted. It is written in a conversational style that was easy to read and kept my attention.

However, the editing is terrible [lots of grammatical errors, typos, etc]. In addition, the Kindle formatting was messed up on my copy and there were parts of the book that you couldn't read because it literally only showed half the page [it hasn't done this on any of the other 100+ kindle books I have, so I don't think it is a problem with my kindle]. Some of the pictures also weren't great - they wouldn't even really show up on my kindle screen, they just looked like gray blurs.

Over all, for the price, I think this is a decent introduction. It could have been much better with some basic editing and better kindle formatting.

This was a great book for an intro to raising pastured pigs, from start to butchering. I really appreciated the story of the authors first butchering, the problems and solutions they progressed through. I felt like I just went through the process with them, figuring as we went. The book itself is a 5 star; frustrating missing letters/parts of lines on kindle display. For me, didn't happen until about the last 1/4 of book.
