Descripción del producto

You are not lazy, undisciplined, or uncommitted!

Procrastination, perfectionism, and writer's block are habits rooted in scarcity and fear. If you know the seven secrets of the prolific, you can "magically" recover all the energy, discipline, and commitment you thought you had lost.

Author, coach and workshop leader Hillary Rettig characterizes, in great detail and depth, the major causes of underproductivity, including: procrastination, perfectionism, resource scarcity, time scarcity, an ineffective writing process, bias, ambivalence, internalized oppression, traumatic rejection, and exploitative career paths.

Then she tells you how to conquer each. The solutions are:

1. Identify and Overcome Perfectionism
2. Abundantly Resource Yourself
3. Manage Your Time
4. Optimize Your Writing Process
5. Understand and Claim Your Identity as a Writer
6. Cultivate Resilience in the Face of Rejection and Harsh Criticism, and
7. Create a Liberated Career.

Those are the 7 Secrets of the Prolific! And whether you write fiction or nonfiction, or poetry, screenplays or something else - or whether you write for business or school - those secrets will help you speed your output, lower your stress, and bring you joy and fulfillment.

Special sections include:

*writing on the Internet (and how to withstand the Internet's harsh culture)
*coping with the many clueless and/or challenging comments and questions people direct to writers (e.g., "When will you get that thing done?") and,
*Publishing Without Perishing, a special Appendix just for graduate students and other academic writers.

The 7 Secrets of the Prolific is published without DRM so that you may enjoy it on any device you own.

This book is fantastic. I use what I learned from the book, and from Hillary Rettig's workshops (on which the book is based) whenever I sit down to write. Even that I sit down to write, every day, is partly due to what I learned from Hillary and this book. All the sources of writing blocks that I know of, and I've personally experienced many of them, are discussed and diagnosed, and gently effective solutions offered.

The book is valuable not just for writing but also for living more productively and with more enjoyment. Now when I run into a life difficulty, I often think, "What would Hillary say?" As a recent example, our youngest daughter had been regularly waking up at 5:20am, and I was bleary-eyed and bad tempered the rest of the day. I remembered what I learned from this book, "Productive people ask for help; they seek out mentors." Which the tired parents did: We consulted an expert on childrens' sleep (the author of The Sleep Lady's Good Night, Sleep Tight: Gentle Proven Solutions to Help Your Child Sleep Well and Wake Up Happy), and our daughter now sleeps happily until 6:30am. And I have an extra hour for writing!

I highly recommend this book to everyone with important projects to complete. And isn't that all of us?

An excellent guide to overcoming procrastination and blocks to accomplishing any important project. Although the book is aimed at writers, and contains plenty of writing-specific advice, I would recommend it to anyone who struggles with initiating or completing projects, and especially to solopreneurs. Hillary has done a beautiful job of capturing all the reasons why writers and other creative, visionary people get stalled in the process of bringing their ideas to life, and provided many truly helpful strategies for getting past those obstacles.

At times, I felt as if she was inside my head, listening to my own internal dialogue. She accurately nailed all the reasons I find myself not being as productive as I would like, and gave me new ideas for overcoming these saboteurs. I recognized many of my clients in her examples as well. I am already recommending this book to my coaching clients, and will give it an honored place on my resource list.

4.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas I'm finally able to target the source of my procrastination 11 de enero de 2013

While the book is geared toward writers (which I'm not), Hillary Rettig's refreshing perspective on procrastination has helped me overcome so much in my personal life. Reading 7 Secrets of the Prolific helped me realize that all of my procrastination is fear-based... that the reason I put off a task is because I'm afraid of the consequences or that I don't have enough information to complete it properly. Just that realization alone makes this book worth the read!

The three productivity behaviors are: (1) showing up exactly on time, (2) doing exactly what you are supposed to be doing, and (3) doing it uninterruptedly (except for small breaks) for long periods of time. "e;

Triggers, in contrast, are feelings that interfere with your ability to write. Fear is the big one, not just because it tends to be intense and disabling but because writers take constant risks, with fear being a natural consequence "e;
