Emily Gifford's dying wish is for her son, Joaquin Luis Miguel to be with his father, a father he's never known. Emily didn't want Luis de Cuevas to know Miguel was his son until she was gone, but when Luis shows up in her hospital room, she is relieved he is there. One look at the little boy, and Luis knows the child is his.
Luis is a very successful writer and hires someone from Emily's staff to help him take care of his house and Miguel. The housekeeper requests she be allowed to hire someone to help with Miguel and the housework. She hires Suzy Tharpe, a college student studying English lit. Luis loves his son deeply and is very happy being a single father. Luis asks Suzy to help with editing his new book and is amazed at her thoroughness. Suzy likes Luis, in fact she's infatuated with him, but doesn't think anything can or will become of it.
Luis soon notices Suzy for the beautiful young woman she is, he likes spending time with her and sees how much Suzy adores Miguel for who he is and not for whom his father is. Soon Luis and Suzy are an item and Suzy can't believe it. She knows it's not meant to last for Luis and that he is just passing some time with her. But for Suzy, it's more than that; she quickly falls in love with Luis. Luis and Suzy have some hard times ahead with their relationship and Suzy may not be able to be with Luis like he wants.
Kate Hofman has another fantastic book in Single Father Seeks... Once again we get to visit Ocean Breeze, Florida and all of the past characters in her books. Tom and Jeff are the most mentioned, with small visits from the others. Ms. Hofman's ability to suck the reader into the story from the first page always amazes me. I was glued to this story and couldn't put it down as I turned the pages. There is the usual love story, jealous females, and problems for the hero and heroine to come to terms with. Luis is a very successful writer and he becomes a great father. I also thought he was a bit selfish though, always wanting things to go his way in the relationship. Luis also had a very strong sense of right and wrong. I really grew to like Luis.
I liked Suzy right from the start, she was a hard working, responsible person who was also trying to help out her family after the death of her father. She always wanted to do what was right for everyone. Ms. Hofman develops the characters and story very well with a lot of depth and dimension, I really feel as if I'm part of the book. I totally enjoyed reading Single Father Seeks....
