Descripción del producto

Descripción del producto

Sticky Readers is a humorous, but helpful book about writing better blog posts. While the book is helpful for all writers, it was written with bloggers in mind.

Sticky Readers explains the various ways to make your writing more engaging (i.e. less boring) so that a reader will "stick" around for the whole thing, rather than read the first paragraph, get bored and leave.

Sticky Readers is not a book about English grammar, but a book about how to tell an engaging story.

It also includes a section about combating writer's block and a list of Top Ten Mistakes that bloggers make to drive readers away.

Biografía del autor

Margaret Andrews is a freelance writer with an online humor column, Nanny Goats in Panties, which began in 2005 and was voted Best Local Blogger for the Sacramento area in the KCRA3 A-List for 2011. Born in Sacramento, CA, in 1965 and graduating from Humboldt State University with a degree in Computer Information Systems in 1989, Andrews moved to Los Angeles in 1992 where she was a software developer, competitive beach volleyball player, and improvisational theatre performer. In 2009, she moved back to Sacramento and is now a journalist for Carmichael Patch. Andrews's first book, "Sticky Readers: How To Attract a Loyal Blog Audience by Writing More Better" was published in June 2011. Her other writing appears in the video game Coconut Queen, and in journals such as Toasted Cheese and Long Story Short.

There are tons of books on blogging but they are usually geared toward business blogs. When you're a personal blogger, these "resources" can provoke more frustration than answers. Sticky Readers is a personal bloggers must have. Andrews outlines what bloggers must do to create well written blog posts and she does it with her customary sense of humor and wit! Even seasoned bloggers can benefit from her instruction. I particularly like Chapter 16: Quick Reference Check List (Before You Hit Publish) where Andrews neatly recaps the main points of her book. I plan to begin reviewing this list for each blog post I write until I have it memorized. If you're looking to improve your writing (blog posts or otherwise) Sticky Readers is a must have.

Have you every laughed out loud (LOL for the kids) while reading a "how to" book? I doubt it. I did while reading Sticky Readers. Writing geeks will have flashbacks to their college classes and newbies to the world of blogging will learn some esoteric stuff without realizing it.

Margaret writes the book as though she is talking to you, guiding you through the wilds of the Internet. Her conversational style eases you into learning. It doesn't get in your face with lists and jargon all over the place. However, what she teaches you is the core of good content. It's the basic rules of writing told in a way that everyone should be able to understand and find entertaining.

Essential to learning, she uses examples of how to create good content. We've all heard about how "content is king", but until now, no blogger or social media maven ever seemed to be able to break it down into concise elements to show us what it should look like.

This is my favorite part from Sticky Readers:
"Now, if you want friendly debatable comments then just say you like chocolate and leave the foreign intergalactic policy to other bloggers who can take the heat when Joe Neptune Hater makes a bunch of offensive comments about Andromedan stereotypes, calling anybody who disagrees with him many vulgar space dust names."

Margaret also attempts to dispel the myth about writer's block by reminding writers that inspiration really is what you want. She says that you have it even in the mundane if you just take a moment to notice.

Personally, I think this book is a great read for all writers, not just bloggers. It's a fairly quick read, but great to have around as a source of inspiration when you feel like you have fallen into a writing rut.

Writer's block?
Stuck?
No one reading your blog?
On the verge of hitting the delete blog key?
Feh! says Margaret Andrews.
And before you go and trot out the "I don't have anything to write about" excuse
be warned, she's not buying it.
You have plenty, you're just not paying attention.
Sticky Readers: How to Attract a Loyal Blog Audience by Writing More Better is a witty, helpful guide not only for bloggers but for anyone who must hold and sustain an audience's attention for more than a fraction of a second. Like a good friend who wants to get you out of a jam, Margaret's honest and funny guide gets right down to heart of the matter right away. You and uh, your writing. Following her advice will improve your blog content, you'll get unstuck and readers will stick around for more.

Don't ever tell the reader how they will feel about your story. It's presumptuous and insulting. "e;
