Descripción del producto

Inspired by actual events, The God Complex takes readers on a thrill ride through Chinese medicine. Discover the secrets of the Orient as you embark on a 'factional' adventure pitting Eastern medicine against its critics in the West.  Each clue brings you one step closer to solving the mystery and uncovering an ancient secret that connects Chinese medicine to martial arts.  Setting: Prague (see below)

This book has nothing to do with religion.  If you are looking for a pleasant story relating to religion, this is NOT your book.  However, you SHOULD buy this book if you are looking for a fast-paced adventure novel in which you'll discover an ancient, hidden connection between Eastern medicine and martial arts.  This book is based upon actual events as experienced by the author over a fifteen year period.  These events have been woven into a fictional story line to engage the reader in a way that makes the concepts more easily digested.  This book contains graphic violence and sexual content.  While this is a 'factional' novel, more of this story is fact than fiction.

A "God Complex" is a psychological term that refers to people who believe they are infallible. It's often used in reference to doctors.  The God Complex is a based upon a real life medical mystery during which the author visited more than 140+ physicians in Boston and Chicago over a fifteen year period.  Many of the encounters he had with the God complex were condensed into two characters. Readers who have been frustrated patients at the hands of incompetent medical staff will likely appreciate this story line to its fullest.

Set in Prague, The God Complex also serves as a surrogate tour guide, offering readers a unique perspective of the city and its culture. Learn a few Czech words, dishes, and customs.  Downloada free self-guided tour from the book's website and turn your trip to Prague into an adventure. Sip coffee in the same cafe where Paul Benson pieces together his brother's mysterious murder. Or, dine with locals on succulent pig's knee in the shadow of the Prague Castle. Tour includes map with thumbnail images, transportation and chapter references, and useful vocabulary.

Traditional Chinese medicine, five element theory, martial arts, dim mak, qigong, western medicine, Prague, Czech Republic, Boston, Massachusetts, English as a Second Language (ESL), teaching abroad, travel, history, and culture.

4.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Intriguing take on Western medicine 14 de enero de 2013
Formato:Versión Kindle
Evidently inspired by true events, we follow the story of a man whose health steadily deteriorates as a result of poor diagnoses by medical professionals who are too busy to pay attention, too brainwashed to recognize other methods of treatment, and/or too invested in their own delusions of omnipotence to notice they’ve failed. Filled with lots of information about ancient Eastern practices of healing, I found this a highly entertaining/enlightening/thought-provoking read. Although the main character resorts to some pretty drastic means to prove his point, it has a certain appeal to our darker desires to exact revenge and teach a lesson to those who harm us.

I liked the mystery aspect and wished it had played a bigger part. The presentation of the mistakes of Western medicine versus the holistic approach of Eastern medicine became a little long-winded/repetitive at times, but overall a good read. A few minor typos were noted, but not enough to ruin the story.

As an acupuncturist, I found The God Complex to be impeccably researched and giving suspense to a story that would otherwise be difficult for the mainstream reader. As a patient having fallen through the cracks of Western medicine and nearly losing my life, I'm grateful to Chris Titus for having written a book that brings a new view on why taking charge of one's health is so important. I can't wait to recommend this book to my patients. This was a great read.

I hope this is the first of many books to come from Chris Titus. He obviously has the unique ability to take a difficult to understand topic and present it as a back drop and plot line to an exciting, twisting adventure novel. This story is a page turner. As a health care provider I witness daily the harsh effects of western medicine on patient moral and their health. This story is poignant to our time as we in the west seek a patient centered health care system, not one controlled by the hospitals, the pharmaceutical and the insurance industries. Herein a western doctor is forced to use his own medicine to cure himself, the results are exciting, relevant and thought provoking. This book is for patients and practitioners alike. Read it!

3.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Not a bad read, but a bit long winded at points 3 de enero de 2012

I enjoyed the mix of east and west medicine, but some of the explanations and diagrams just went on for too long.

The story itself had some nice twists to it, but I felt like some of the plot was left out to make room for the concentration on the eastern medicine portions of the story.

For a first novel I think it was well done. I am hopeful that there are more to come and that, like most authors, he will improve with each book.

4.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Someone punched a dumb doctor in the nose for me! 21 de julio de 2011

First, and most important, this is a great "read." It's well written, and holds your interest with plenty of action.

As someone who once considered becoming a doctor, this thriller, set against a background of western medicine, I found to be very exciting and engaging. The fact that I learned a great deal about Eastern medicine was a bonus.

CUT TO THE CHASE: God Complex fulfilled a secret desire of mine - and I'll bet a boatload of others who don't consider themselves violent people, but are very frustrated sometimes by the dismissive attitudes of many doctors. My desire is to punch all the dumb doctors (I've ever gone to) in the nose. Of course, Steve Benson (the hero)does so much more... Obviously, what Steve does is illegal (and albeit fictional), but it sure made me feel good just reading about it! The character of Steve Benson is well portrayed as someone who just wants to know what the heck is wrong with him. If there is no cure, fine; he'll somehow manage it. But Steve's character elicits a great deal of empathy because we've all been there at one time or another.

I recommend God Complex if you've ever wanted to get back at the pharmaceutical or insurance companies; if you've ever been interested in medicine, or if you've ever felt that most of the doctors you have been treated by are on "auto pilot". Like I said, it's a good read!

5.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Perfert Hurricane Reading! 30 de agosto de 2011
Por AmazonNutriDoc - Publicado en Amazon.com
Formato:Tapa blanda
I am so glad that Chris sent me an invitational link to share his great work. The book arrived on my doorstep just as Hurricane Irene did as well. After signing for it, thanking the drenched driver of the postal truck, I ducked inside and lit an extra candle and began to read. I'll have to admit it was difficult to put down and the blasting wind with rain only added to my exclusion of the outside world. As a practicing acupuncuturist, specializing in nutrition, these references in the book held additional focus. My only contention that I brought up with Chris, was the dard side of his character in the delivery care(?). Of course, Chris reminds me that we all have that dark side, and can be intrigued by it all the while. My suggestion to readers, don't wait for a hurricane to block out the wildness of life before reading this one. It is well worth the time!
