Reseña del editor
"On many occasions in my life I've arrived at a point where I've thought: is this it? Whenever I reached a goal, it was with the unspoken expectation that when this has been achieved then my life will be great. It didn't happen." At the age of thirty-one Annette Birkmann quits her job as a lawyer in Denmark, sells her belongings and travels to Buenos Aires, Argentina, to fulfill a childhood dream: to ride a motorcycle. The Road to Getting Yourself Out of the Way is about the author's solo motorcycle journey through Latin America and her search for an effortless approach to living. It describes the lessons she learned living her dream and her realization that in every experience there was something familiar: herself.

That leap into the unknown is the foundation of this book, really. The author deftly uses the act of solo motorcycle travel as a metaphor for the inner journey she (somewhat unwittingly) embarked on by leaving Denmark for Argentina in the first place, and then by following her passion where it led her - both literally on her BMW and figuratively on her path of transformation in the process.
If you're interested in motorcycles, travel, personal growth in the face of challenges internal and external, this book is well worth a look.
This book has been compared to Zen and the Art of Motorcylce Maintenance and this comparison is quite valid. In fact, I actually found The Road to Getting Yourself Out of the Way to be much more accessible and no less profound. It is a humble and sincere book by a strong woman who is not afraid to be completely honest about every aspect of both her inner and physical journeys thus giving the book its immense humanity and making the author’s experience relatable to anyone. I found The Road to Getting Yourself Out of the Way to be an excellent read and a must for anyone who has tried to get anywhere in his or her life, on a motorcycle or not.
