Reseña del editor

The Small And The Brave is a story of the real life experiences of author Rosemarie Stachel. Viewed from the standpoint of a sensitive young refugee during WWII, her account offers first hand commentary of the courage and strength needed for survival.

Biografía del autor

Rosemarie Stachel, was born Rosemarie Krömer in 1937 in the city of Breslau/Silesia, East Germany which is now Wroclaw, Poland. After her father's death in 1942, she and her mother survived the hardships of war for several years until Hitler's reign subsided. Her grandmother put her through business school in Germany, and learning to speak English, Rosi immigrated to the United States and married a prominent restaurant manager. Though she never had children, her life has been full of adventure. Fifty some odd years and two husbands later, she is a merry widow in retirement looking for her next adventure.

"The Small and the Brave" is a story of WWII Germany from the memories of Rosi Stachel. It spans her life from when she was four (4) years old through 18-1/2 years. Although it is a fairly short book (30 pages), it speaks volumes. In reading it, you can actually feel what the German people themselves endured. I couldn't put it down. I later had the pleasure of meeting the author, Rosemarie Stachel. She is a virant, outgoing person in spite of all that she lived through. This is a "must read" for everyone. I highly recommend this book. It makes you wonder how many other Rosi Stachel's are out there.

This little book is one of the most compelling and powerful stories I have read in a long time. Rosi tells the story of her childhood experiences in a way that connects the reader to her emotions, and to her story. This book is an important reminder of what humans are capable of, both the best and the worst. Thank you sweet Rosi for sharing yourself with us.

Rosi Stachel recaptures the small voice of her childhood in full description, of the trials endured during her World War II experiences. Her vivid memories allow you to relive her stories in a very spirited way. Rosi is an inspiration of how love and forgiveness can heal.

Reading about those horrific times in our history is always very heart wrenching. Reading about the experiences of one who lived through those times brought sadness to my heart, but also made me realize the strength of the human mind and body.

The at times shocking memoirs of a young girl in WW II Germany revives the tale of a generation's trials of war, the invasion by Russian soldiers, and finally emigration to America. A most interesting story well worth reading.
