AirGrid M2 20 dBi The AirGrid M20 dBi is a flexible, robust technology from Ubiquiti Network that offers users more than just an antenna. It's a complete system that works in various topologies and advanced technologies-all for a reasonable price. Various Networking Roles The unit can be in client mode or as a CPE, but it may also be designed to be an access point, providing sufficient Internet connectivity to several users and devices all at one time. It also helps LANs and WANs to communicate more effectively without any significant drops in the transmission signals. This is a great show of flexibility that says the device is ready for deployment to existing networks. Easy Configuration and Monitoring The AirGrid M2 20dBi comes with its own pole mounting kit and brackets to provide good-enough support and to ease the installation; the device can already be up and running in a matter of minutes. To properly monitor its status in real time, it is also equipped with LED indicators. The antenna is already integrated into the system. It has a gain of 20dBi and a polarization that can go vertical or horizontal. The PoE injector allows you to transmit the needed power to run it over the same cable. Accessories such as ToughCables or surge protectors may be added to prevent unit damage due to ESD. Superior Performance The unit operates using the Atheros chipset at MIPS 4KC with a speed of 400MHz. It is then complemented by 8MB NAND Flash we well as 32MB RAM. It has a maximum transmission speed of 150 mbps with DHCP protocol support. It broadcasts at a frequency of 2.4GHz. The antenna uses the InnerFeed technology with TDMA protocol through AirMax. The QoS gives you free rein on bandwidth allocation and prioritization. The AirControl V lets you manage hundreds of connected devices simultaneously.

If you need a little help like I did, here are a few things to try:
* Watch the videos on the Ubiquiti site (they're also on Youtube). There are some very specific configurations you have to use or else it won't work.
* Troubleshoot without the grid. Just attach the "beam" part to the POE and connect it to your network. This is so you don't have to run upstairs and down like I did the first few times to test it.
* The "horizontal" vs. "vertical" diagrams were confusing to me. It has nothing to do with the length of the grid but the polarity. So if you're looking at it with the long side down, that's "vertical." This is important as your beam part needs to match with the little "V" on the bottom.
* You will need two network cables: one to attach the grid to the POE and the other to attach the POE to the network (mine goes into a router). The one from the grid to the POE should be an outdoor cable. I didn't order cables at the time and had to raid my other equipment.
* If you choose DHCP for your airGrid, you MUST get the "Ubiquiti Device Discovery Tool" to find it again. This is because your airgrid will change IP addresses and you'll never find it again without resetting to factory specs. Trust me, I know...
Again, I'm not very technical so the above might not be useful at all. I was going to dock this one star for the poor documentation. There's no reason a basic configuration can't be included here, but it works so well I gave it the 5.
With the Loco the best signal that I could obtain was -70 dB. Once I installed a pair of the AirGrids my signal locked at -35 dB. Yes way to strong of a signal so I had to turn down the transmission power to 9 dBm for both AirGrids. Once I did I am showing -51 dB and I am transfering a good strong data rate in the UP/DN range of 20 Mbs / 25 Mbs with a 20 MHz channel width. The Loco M2 I could only use a 10 MHz channel width and had an UP/DN range of 3 Mbs / 2.5 Mbs.
CCQ for my set up is above 99% with a -96 dB noise floor. The AirGrid has a 99% airMax quality with a 48% airMax capacity. Compared to the Loco M2 have a 58% airMax quality and 36% airMax capacity. Please note that the AirGrid is only a 1x1 chain device capable of MSC7 so your maximum airMax capacity maxes out at 50% compared to the Loco M2 2x2 chain capable of MSC15 maxing out at 100%.
I have included pictures of the AP side with with where trees are hitting my fresnel zone.
Very happy and satisfied with the units so far.
One thing to note: When I setup originally I connected a Ubiquity AirGateway up at the same time as the AirGrid using the POE Adapter. However to setup the AirGrid as an Access Point you have to disable the AirMax Only (remove checkmark) on the Ubiquity Tab on the AirGrid setup page. Once I did that I could no longer ping the AirGrid or get to it's setup page. I had to remove the AIrGateway from the POE adapter to be able to access the AirGrid setup page. I'm glad I checked that because I was ready to send the AirGrid radio back as I thought it was defective. Turns out it was fine. I bought this item and the AirGateway to repeat the campground WiFi and setup my own local WiFi. Only time will tell for longevity but so far I'm very I'm impressed.
Throughput is exactly as advertised, and behaved exactly as I wanted - like a 500-yard long network cable. Problem solved, and the total cost of the linkage (including materials to mount the antennas) was less than $200.
I recommend this product to others looking to do point-to-point linkage, though I cannot speak to the *multitude* of other uses, such as a broadcast AP for Wifi, multi-station AP for point-to-point, subnetting, or anything else.
My level of expertise: some networking knowledge, enough to use specific IP addresses and understand what an SSID represents.
