I began suffering from severe shoulder pain recently. We questioned whether or not reaching for and fighting with the recliner lever was the cause. This is when i decided i MUST purchase the Recliner Lever Extender.
It has made a tremendous difference in raising and lowering the leg of my recliner. It is much less of a struggle than it used to be. It has been determined that i have a Brachial plexus injury, and the lever extender does help take the stress off the effected area.
I was able to put the Recliner Lever Extender onto my Recliner Handle in less than five minutes. The included hex wrench made this process even faster, since I didn't have to search for a tool.
Thanks for making for my life with MS and a brachial plexus injury a lot less painful!
This product review is written to inform you of a product I purchased at full price. I was not compensated in any form for this review.
What made me think the lever extender would work was the handle was made in an ergonomic design so I knew the handle would be easy to use. The lever measured 9 inches and 7 inches wide so I knew that the handle would be comfortable to grab and move. The padded section on the clamp area protects the fabric on the chair from wearing. The handle took just a few minutes to install with just four bolts to attach. The handle was secured to the lever and ready to use.
The handle is made of a heavy duty steel and has a painted black coating. The handle does not look out of place and cannot be seen really unless you are looking at that side of the chair. When testing the lever I had no trouble raising or lower the leg rest. The chair is new and with any new chair the mechanisms are tight. My father in law was unable to get the chair leg rest up or down with the regular side lever and was ready to return the chair. After installing the lever extender he was able to operate the chair on his own after he learned how to use the lever. He is no longer having any issues.
Overall, the handle has been on the chair for 21 days and is holding up great. I checked the bolts and they are staying tight even with the constant up and down that my father in law does throughout the day. He is finally able to operate his chair without any extra help. Giving him back his independence by adding the easy to reach lever extender has made a huge difference in his overall activity level too. Installing the handle requires no extra tools since the handle comes with a hex/allen wrench. After tightening the bolts the handle was secure and safe to use. I tested it by having my husband put his full weight on the handle (170 lbs) and it stayed secure. The painted surface is smooth. The handle shape is comfortable for my small hands all the way to my father in laws large hands. My father in law is 6’2” and weights 245 lbs and this handle allows him to operate the chair with ease. Our family is completely happy with this purchase and the functionality of this product. We would recommend the lever extender to anyone struggling or who could use just a little bit of extra help with getting in and out of their recliner.
This was purchased with my own funds and this is my honest and unbiased opinion of this product.
You may be thinking that I'd be better off foregoing the recliner, but I spent the first month after surgery predominantly in my bedroom where I had two main pieces of furniture: my lovely bed, and...yep, you guessed it, a recliner!! Thankfully I had a hunch this would be a problem because even before the surgery the back pain was making it hard to do, so I knew I didn't want to overdo it in any way after the surgery. Luckily I found this item and for such a simple little thing it has honestly made a huge difference in my life! Hey, they say it's the little things, and I guess they're right : )
This literally slides right over your existing recliner handle. No tools involved. Just slide it on and make sure it feels secure. Then sit down. Reach over the edge of your chair and be amazed to only need to reach a few inches before your hand touches the lever extender. It sticks out slightly so it has...um, well...better leverage, lol, so you just gently pull it toward the back of your chair and you will find yourself drifting backward as your recliner falls smoothly into place. So great.
When you are ready to sit up you merely reach down again - amazingly you can still reach it easily, and guide the handle back to the upright position. Depending on your chair you may still need a little bodyweight to help the process along, other chairs will just move with the handle's help. Considering I spent a good deal of each day in my chair for a month and at least an hour or two per day now, I would say this was a very wise investment on my part!
