5.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Fantastic Tool 16 de octubre de 2013

These screw removers from Alden are truly fantastic. I am a aircraft mech. and we deal with a lot of machine screws and they are usually screwed into locking type nuts. It is not unusual for the Philips heads to get worn over time and make it hard for the screwdriver to get a good bite. We also use a screw gun, most of the time, because of the amount of screws. Whenever the screw gun bit looses it grip and spins it wipes out any chance of removing the screw by conventional means. In the past this meant drilling off the head of the offending screw and then still dealing with removing the remaining shank. Very time consuming. Now, whenever I start to remove a cowl, I stick this Grabit #1 in my shirt pocket because I know I will need it. It works better than I ever could have imagined, having a lot of experience with "ease outs" and other types of removal tools. This is my second Grabit #1, to have as a spare in case I wear out my original. There is no sign of wear on the original yet and it has removed at least 25 damaged 10/32 and 8/32 machine screws without one failure. One screw was so stuck that the highest setting on my screw gun would not budge the bit ounce in place and I had to put a 1/4 inch wrench on it to get it started. The bit held and the screw came out. Very impressive tool.

1.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Broke first time I used it 7 de agosto de 2010

I used this on a wheel cylinder bleeder valve which had broken off leaving a nice hole to screw into. For those not familiar with a bleeder valve they are soft so they seal inside the wheel cylinder so your brakes do not leak. But, they must be handled with care when removing them as they can break easily. This one was totally uncooperative. After I broke the bleeder I screwed the GraBit into the existing hole, slipped a 1/4" drive socket over the tool bit and tried to unscrew it. When it got tight the GraBit snapped off. I would have expected it to pull the threads out of the soft bleeder valve but it just broke. So now I have the end of a very hard bit stuck in my broken valve which will preclude any further attempts to remove it. Time to get a new cylinder. Some of the other reviews give this thing Five Stars which I see as a misconception. I have 30 years of experience as an Armorer and various types of mechanical work including building one full size airplane. On a screw that the head strips or comes off that otherwise can be removed this equipment should be fine but a little bit of a really stuck fastener you can plan on these things breaking.

I tried this on two different damaged screws. It did not work on either. Do not waste your money on this one.

Works great for the price you pay. They are a bit on the brittle side so be careful. I use these often will probably buy a better brand down the road.

These bits are the best extractors I've ever used. Just don't use them on hardened steel screws, they WILL break
