Reseña del editor
“What Gabby Bess captures with her words is the beauty of a fragile time and place. In this collection, she evokes what it means to be young, to be a woman, to have both feet firmly planted both in this world and the virtual. She asks fascinating questions like, ‘Is anyone moved by the plainness of raw skin anymore?’ She makes you trust she has the necessary answers with intelligence and confidence. In this book, Bess builds an identity for herself and tears it down and builds herself anew. It is breathtaking to behold.” –Roxane Gay, author of An Untamed State and Bad Feminist

Gabby's use of language and her attention to emotional detail land her in both a school of language poetry and that of a confessional poet, while also adding a tinge of super contemporary commentary on what it is like to be a young woman in today's reality and/or virtual reality. She picks up well on the idea of self representation, and how one's inner self can be accurately presented or gravely misrepresented in our over sharing social landscapes. She wonders if misplacing your dignity is the same as misplacing your lipstick, if feeling happy is better than feeling in love, and if selling out is a worthwhile goal for an artist. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to be challenged, to think a bit harder, and to behold the glory of what a new generation of writers has to offer ! Amazing work!
