Descripción del producto

LAPD Detective Harry Bosch tackles a trio of tough cases in an exclusive eBook containing three compelling short stories.

In CHRISTMAS EVEN, the case of a burglar killed in mid-heist leads Bosch to retrace a link to his past. In FATHER'S DAY, Bosch investigates a young boy's seemingly accidental death and confronts his own fears as a father. In ANGLE OF INVESTIGATION, Bosch delves into one of the first homicides he ever worked back as a uniformed rookie patrolman, a case that was left unsolved for decades.

Together, these gripping stories span Bosch's controversial career at the LAPD and show the evolution of the haunted, legendary investigator he would become. Utterly unputdownable, they are proof that 'Connelly is a crime writing genius' INDEPENDENT ON SUNDAY.

5.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Now this is the Michael Connelly we all adore! 12 de octubre de 2011

Suicide run, the other three Harry Bosch short stories book released last month was a disappointment for most fans, myself included.

This book, on the other hand, is a great and exciting reading! Here you can see our old friend, Harry Bosch in his glory. The stories are good, with great plots, well written mysteries, and have a profoundness that is touching.
The first story shows us a little more about Bosch's war years - I'm never tired of hearing about them. Plus, it explains something I was curious about, but I'll not say more to avoid spoilers...

The second story is deep and sad. It makes one wonder about parenthood and its difficulties. We have Ignacio there, and I missed him...

The last story names the book and it starts at the very beginning of Bosch's career. He always talks about his first murder investigation now we can read it. It's great to be there with him, and to see him, years later, trying to bring justice to the case. Typical Bosch - never letting go.

*EDIT - technically, it's not his first investigation, it's his first dead body as a cop, when he was still a rookie but you'll see it's almost the same for him...-*

Those who canceled the pre-order for this book because of Suicide Run, please, think again. I believe this is a must read for all Harry Bosch's friends!

5.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas The great Bosch 26 de octubre de 2011

This short story collection that came out only as an eBook is better than Suicide Run, which I reviewed recently, since not only the stories are more interesting but also because it gives the reader a chance to get to know better Connelly's detective Bosch.
In Christmas Even Bosch and his partner Jerry Edgar are called to investigate a not so common death. The scene of the crime, if ever there was one, is a pawnshop that belongs to a man of Russian origins. According to him his shop has been victimized by a burglar three times in the past and he's quite certain that the dead man was behind those crimes. How did he get in though and what was it that killed him? Harry will get the answers to these questions with no difficulty at all. But now, and most importantly, he also has to find out who killed him. It's Christmas Eve. All his colleagues are in a hurry to call it a day and go home, but he knows that he will never get peace of mind if he doesn't solve the riddle. So he'll start wandering from one place to the next, arresting people and posing questions until he reaches his goal. At the same time, the accidental recovery of a stolen saxophone will bring back to him memories from the Vietnam War and that's exactly when one will be able to take a better look into his psyche.
The story in Father's Day somehow reminds us of an episode of CSI Miami in which something similar has happened. A fifteen month old boy is found dead in his father's car. The cause of death is heatstroke and now it falls to Bosch and his partner Ignatio Ferras to discover whether it was an accident or rule it a crime. The child was handicapped and in cases like this no one can be certain about anything.
Bosch takes a journey into the past in Angle of Investigation. The year is 1972 and he is just starting his career as a cop in the LAPD, when he and his partner-mentor Ron Eckersly are ordered to visit the house of a woman who, according to her daughter who lives in a different town, has been missing for a few days now. As it turns out the latter had every reason to worry since the two of them will discover the corpse of the woman in her bathtub along with that of her dog. That case has never been solved and now Bosch, who works along with Kiz Rider on the cold case division, is more determined than ever to solve the case and bring the truth to light.
Three nicely crafted tales by one of the best American crime fiction authors.

If i had any complains about this collection, it would be that it's too short!
You can read this 3 excellent stories in about 45 min, 1 hour.
It is a delight to see how the Harry Bosch character goes about solving a case.
One good thing about this format is that if you are on the fence about Michael Connelly or the Harry Bosch series, this is a good entry point, since they are basically condensed novels, stripped to the bone, lean and mean.
These short stories embody what i love about Harry Bosch as a character and Michael Connelly as the greatest crime writer of his time.

I do not write a lot of reviews but feel I have to write a review after seeing the string of 5 Star reviews these stories received. I am sure Mr. Connelly writes wonderful intricate plotted books. But these 3 stories are just too simplistic. Anyone who has watched a Castle, Closer, or Mentalist episode will guess the outcome a quarter of the way into the story. The stories are fine but hardly worth purchasing. The preview of "The Drop" (Connelly's newest, now released title) was quite good. My recommendation... skip the 3 short stories and put your $2.99 toward THE DROP instead.

1.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas a little disappointed 30 de mayo de 2012

I purchased this book, being a long term Michael Connelly fan..
It comprised 2 short stories, 1 being "Angle Of Investigation". Both were fine short stories and I enjoyed both. My dissapointment came about when I began the 3rd section and found it was a trailer to a book I had already read!. This section comprised 40% of the sale item. This was the dissapointing aspect. I welcome your response.
