I can only thank the incredibly musically talented folks who provide background music on TV shows for even finding this album. I was watching the C.S.I. show broadcast on Feb. 15, 2012 when Audra Mae's "Ne're Do Wells" came on as a featured song. I was so gobsmacked by the lyrics and vocal quality that I stopped watching the show and hit REWIND on the DVR 5 times, to not only enjoy it but write down enough of the lyrics to find the artist. Fortunately, someone beat me to the web, by asking about that specific song on yahoo answers and a link was provided to Audra Mae's site. From there, it was a quick trip to Zune and after making sure that specific song was on her album, I downloaded the entire contents.

Usually, in whichever artist I download, there's a song or two (or three) that I don't particularly fancy, so I either FF past it or delete it from my Zune. With THIS album, however, is a winner!!!! Since Thursday, I've played it non-stop and am now at my 50th listening to it. If you need any kind of comparison, her vocals remind me of KT Tunstall in "Black Horse and Cherry Tree." I've also sent links to the album to 4 of my like-minded friends to download.

This is an incredibly upbeat tempo and driving album. I was able to power through cleaning two rooms of the house, top to bottom, and then bake a batch of blueberry muffins at the end of the day. I know this might seem silly to most people, but I use music as the force to get me through a day and this album is a "force to be reckened with." Yes, there are slower ballards but not so slow to nod off to sleep. In "Smokin The Boys", I swear I hear hints of Marilyn Monroe's voice in key parts...the sighs and "oooo-ahhhh" are wonderfully flirty. Throughout the entire album, Audra's clear-as-a-bell pronounciation is VERY appreciated; I hate the modern trend of mumbling through a song so badly that I have to do a lyric search to figure out what the artist is trying to say.

All in all, watching C.S.I. that night was a day-late Valentine gift to myself, for finding this album and such a wonderful new artist. I'm trying to beat the drum LOUDLY for her, with links and emails to friends. Good job, Audra Mae & The Almighty Sound! <3

I just love the beat and the delight with which Audra Mae sings and plays on this cd. And she whistles too? Very impressive!

I'm on my second replay of this album since downloading earlier today. Thank you, Audra! We saw you at Tupelo Music Hall recently and have been waiting for this new release. Little Red Wagon rocks with fun. It's the one I was waiting for and now I'm reliving your live performance and ALL the songs. Happy Valentines Day! Catchy tunes.

The music of Audra Mae is taking a turn to folk rock - on account of her new band The Almighty Sound. According to Audra Mae in her interview at The Corner Lounge (see Footnote), her band coalesced after she moved into a bigger house in Los Angeles where she had many visitors. Most of them were artists and musicians. They got together and played the songs of her first album. Soon, they started writing songs together and the new album Audra Mae and the Almighty Sound was born. Working on a shoestring budget, she and her band recorded all 17 songs for both her EP and the subsequent album live instead of tracking the vocals and instruments separately for later remix. They finished the live recordings in a week and kept the best takes. The Almighty Sound consists of Joe Ginsberg who plays the bass, Jarrad kritzstein the guitar, Frank Pedano the piano, and Brent Kyle who sings back-up vocals. Thrown in the mix is Audra Mae's little sister Chelsea Butts, who, according to Audra Mae, is multi-talented and "sings like a bird". In spite of the new sound, there is still the old fun-loving and witty Audra Mae with her seductive whisky voice. The songs are co-written by Audra Mae and the country music artist Deana Carter, who is most famous for her 1995 album Did I shave My Legs for This. Don't miss out on the new sound of Audra Mae and her new band The Almighty Sound.

Pop, blues, rock, country, folk & a little swing all rolled into one fun sound. Audra sounds like Adele on some songs, Loretta Lynn on others, maybe even some Nancy Sinatra. Pick any female artist with strong, powerful and pure lyrics and that's what Audra sounds like. Even though she sings in many styles you would swear that's her only one.

Although it may sound like it, my tastes aren't usually for country but this album is worth a listen. The last music I bought was Puscifer. I immediately went out and bought "The Happiest Lamb" after listening to this one a few times. (Also good, not quite as quick)
