The previews I'd seen of this movie looked like it was a really nice action packed movie, so I bought it. It is basically a poorly attempted remake of the 1972 Charles Bronson movie "The Mechanic". The 2011 remake of "The Mechanic" with Jason Stathom is a much better one (and we don't usually care for remakes of any movie, but did like the 2011 one). Only this one is PLAGUED by huge amounts of VERY annoying and boring internal monologue. I don't think think Nicolas Cage was well suited for this particular role. It did have some nice action sequences though. We liked the "alternate ending" better. I'm glad they had that available. I don't think I'd recommend it unless you're into internal monologue or like remakes (because the writers aren't talented enough to create their own new material). Very disappointing for us, especially since we'd seen both "The Mechanic" movies before watching Bangkok Dangerous.

4.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Campy Violent Fun! 29 de septiembre de 2009

I love Nicholas Cage in just about anything, and this was no exception. Yes, it was an extremely "campy", predictable, violent and definitely Grade B film, but it was so much fun! The way it was filmed was delectable, filled with the raw sights, sounds and colors of Bangkok-you could almost taste and smell the foods in the market, feel the seedy, oily, hot and humid backstreets, and it's mixed-class people; it was wonderful. The story line was typical: assasin meets girl, changes his ways, loses girl because he had to make a moral choice, then goes out in a blaze of glory. But this film has a twist: the love interest was a (delightful) normal woman, AND she was deaf! This made the film much more "realistic"(if you will), using a normal woman rather than the typical woman often portrayed as the heroine, read: stick-thin, extraordinarily beautiful, with a killer wardrobe-even if she is ridiculously poor. If you enjoyed the cult favorite film "Replacement Killers" (Mira Sorvino and Chow Yun Fat-in one of his first US films), you will also enjoy this film.

Just got this last night from amazon and decided to pop it in and give it a shot. After watching it I can say that it wasn't anywhere near as bad as I had heard(24/100 on metacritic). The storyline is fairly simple but decent enough. Unfortunately if you've watched enough action movies you can predict whats coming rather easily. If you haven't, don't worry they pretty much follow every action movie story and let you know about ten minutes of advance for all plot points.

The action scenes are pretty well done for the most part, aside from at least 1 bad cut towards the end of the movie. You will not have to look very hard for it as it's pretty blatant. The CG seems to have been used sparingly thankfully, although it's painfully obvioius when it is.

OK, last complaint... The ending. I can say that if you have a version with the alternate ending stop the movie when you see the camera panning up Nic Cage's arm with some blood running down it, pause the movie and go to the menu to watch the alternate ending. It is far more satisfying then the theatrical ending. Or just watch the regular one then watch the alternate. It does make the movie a bit better.

A lot of my peers refer to me as the "guy who watches those B-Grade Action Movies", so please keep this in mind if you're reading this review.
First, I must confess that Nicolas Cage is very far from being my favorite guy to watch in movies; however, I think that the producers were spot-on when they chose him for this role. He looks the part, acts the part, and executes (pun intended) the part very well.
The story is very solid, and the action sequences are awesome. I'm a sound junkie, and the special effects really rock the house. This movie has my favorite composer, Brian Tyler, so the music is killer (yes, another pun).
Let's face it, if you really need to have your confidence built via an Amazon review before you watch a movie like this, please go rewatch Titanic or something. If you like action, then you'll like this movie. 'Nuff said.

There were several good moments you and your friends could joke about if you're on a Nicolas Cage binge, but most of the movie was too boring. Fortunately, the SD version was just $6, so go for it if you have to learn what the 4 rules of being an assassin are, but know when to get out.
