The cards are perfect, from the worn appearance of the artwork, to the blood spatter that screams that someone got busy with a shotgun on the previous owner of the deck while a game was in progress to the fact that the eyes of the court cards are obscured by small "censorship" black rectangles as though the new owner was perhaps disturbed by what he saw in them when he played solitaire. A close look will show where some of the eyes have got to. The aces seem to have their suite sigil stitched onto the backing, which is possibly skin.
Every card features this worn, blood-spattered theme. Other decks I've bought have limited the special art to the jokers and ace of spades. Not so here. Each card also features the name of the card (in English) in a "Ransom Note" typeface along the card edges under the index. A very nice touch.
I can't think of a better deck to use with "Deadlands:Reloaded" or "Realms of Cthulhu" .
I've used the Dead Eyes deck in exactly the way I suggested several times now, for both Realms of Cthulhu and Deadlands:Reloaded, and the player reaction is very rewarding: glee at the dark card designs, despair at what the switch from the Savage Worlds card deck to this one presaged.
The materials used are good. The cards are nice and slick, and will fan perfectly if you know how to do that without dropping them.
The only possible downside is that the cards are thinner than regular Bicycle Rider Back cards, I'd estimate maybe two thirds the thickness, and are therefore that much more flexible (good for shuffling) and flimsy (bad for resisting accidental damage). This is something I found with my Karnival Assassins deck too; it may be a feature of the brand.
There are a couple of "gaff" cards that enable a magician to perform the reversed card reveal and a magician's choice reveal.
And if you look really closely at the two jokers, and can force a card and do a passable two-card lift, a nice botched-then-fixed reveal routine should suggest itself to any halfway competent magician.
All in all an excellent value for what I paid, and my favorite "themed deck".
I love playing cards that have a creative flair. So I always keep an eye out for something that is really unique. These cards are just that and more.
QUALITY: Very high, it has a middle ground of a dull shine and a texture that is slick with a bit of grab. Running your fingers across them they feel soft but easy to hang onto, not slick like new cards can be.
VISUAL: The cards have a burned edge quality about them, I love that, everything about the artwork draws you into the "mood" of the card. The nature is of course more of a gruesome nature. However if you enjoy that then these are sure to please. Each card gives a visual feel of a handcrafted window into twisted.
