She was packaged nicely and had a great "Wow" factor. We were pleased.
Also note that unlike a lot of Barbies, she isn't poseable and her legs/arms don't bend. Also, her legs and torso are hollow plastic and break easily along the seams. This really isn't the doll for deboxing.
That said, the box is so beautiful that this is a lovely display item when never opened. And that's what most collectors buy this doll for - to complete collections of boxed Barbie Holiday dolls. She is a lovely doll inside her box.
This is one of the classier holiday dolls. The last few years have truly been a golden age for the holiday Barbies, with modern ballgowns that people might really wear, rather than tacky craft ribbon explosions of years past. You can't go wrong buying this as a toy, gift or as a 3-dimensional greeting card. Since they are trying to force people into the NRFB (Never Removed From Box) mentality, I think I would prefer a box with a clear plastic window on top that would allow light to come through-- particularly multi-colored Christmas lights-- how neat would that be?
The fabric is also better than in previous years. In the box, it's held in place with cardboard, but I think if you took her out to display (remember you'll need to get a stand) the dress would drape nicely and not be artificially stiff. One caveat I think bears mentioning is that red fades quickly. It's the nature of the pigment, so keep this one away from sunny windows if you want her red dress to retain its vibrant color. I think that there's a velcro closure in the back of the dress, so if you like to do a little Frankendolling like I do, it will be easy to swap out the dress with another doll. I wish the jewelry could have been real metal with rhinestones instead of solid plastic, but you can't have everything and stay at this price point.
As a Barbie collector, I am thrilled to add her to my Barbie room. You won't be disappointed unless you wanted to put her on a stand, and extra stands are not hard to find. She is definitely one of the best Holiday Barbie dolls ever.
