Descripción del producto

In Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, Fitzwilliam Darcy learns of the debacle involving Elizabeth Bennet's sister several months after he was rejected by Elizabeth, and volunteers to help find her sister, of his own accord.

But what if Miss Elizabeth had requested Mr. Darcy's aid in just a few days after the disastrous proposal at Hunsford, and he was still very angry with her refusal? What if he decided to be ungentlemanly, and demanded a very particular reward from her in exchange for his assistance?

This steamy, funny Pride and Prejudice what-if short story explores that scenario with wit, emotion and intriguing plot twists that take this perennial favorite to another direction.

Warning: This title contains explicit adult content, a disguise, a murder and a curse.

"An engrossing story that will grab the reader and take them on a wild ride that will last until the very last sentence" 5 Cups of Coffee, Ultra Rare Extraordinary Read --Coffee Time Romance

"In Bargain with the Devil Mr. Darcy is certainly a scoundrel but Enid did a wonderful job on this what if story." 5 Stars --Reading with Monie

"True to the characters...Mr. Darcy is more of a rogue in this book. Elizabeth is more daring. Together, they make an excellent team." --Straight From Hel

"Enid has captured the essence of Jane Austen's world. The story is rich in detail, and while it is an homage to Pride and Prejudice, the story does take turns and twists not envisioned in the original." 4 Stars --San Diego Examiner

"Enid Wilson's novels are sexy, fun, and will make you smile with their witty dialogues. She is by far one of the better writers of the growing Jane Austen sequels movement." --Best of Jane Austen Sequels

I always like a good steamy Pride and Prejudice story. So, when I saw this one here on Amazon and saw that it was a sensual version, I just had to buy it. Well, first off, the description is in name only. I say now that there are spoilers ahead:

The description leads you to believe that Darcy cons Elizabeth into becoming his mistress in payment for helping find Lydia and Wickham. The idea never enters his mind! It's Elizabeth who actually thinks that's what he wants. Instead, he just wants to spend some time with her to get to know her better. That was disappointment number one.

Number two was a stupid plot device. Darcy and Elizbeth were doing just fine and were going to get married when Caroline Bingley, jealous woman that she is, decides to use a voodoo spell to make Elizabeth turn into an insatiable sex fiend in the hopes that she'll have sex with any man she comes across thus ruining her chances with Darcy. Well that backfires since Elizabeth was sleeping with Darcy (before they were actually married) and therefore relieved her itch with him, quite happily on both their parts. When Darcy learned what Caroline had done, he worried there might be repercussions. I find it very hard to believe that Darcy, an educated man who took no nonsense from anyone, would believe Elizabeth had been bewitched. And then to top it off, they waited 6 MONTHS after they were married to find the witch who gave Caroline the spell ingrediants in order to thank her for all she'd done and yet find out if there were any problems. And not only did they wait but for some reason they had to go in disguise! That made no sense whatsoever except to give another reason to put Elizabeth in a young man's clothes and have a comedic conversation about her mustache getting in the way of their kisses.

The good parts were the sex scenes were quite good. The dialogue wasn't too bad and the first half of the story was decent. It's a short book (much shorter than I realized) and thus a quick read. The author also has a website dedicated to steamy P&P stories, some Regency era and some futuristic and some modern but all with a touch of sex, some more than others. She might have been better off submitting some of her other modern or futuristic works since they seem to have a better flow to them.

On the whole, this isn't a bad book and Pride and Prejudice fans who wish to read or own all re-writes and sequels will enjoy it for what it is but don't expect it to be some great piece of literature or even a great romance novel the likes of Catherine Anderson or Nora Roberts.

1.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Nothing like Rebecca E's "A Shade in His Character"! 18 de mayo de 2013

I am embarrassed to admit that I bought this e-book. After reading and re-reading the excellent and angsty, but frustratingly incomplete "A Shade in His Character" by Rebecca E of the Lavender Girls site, I was looking for something similar and found this book. Aside from the title, a short dedication and the first few pages, this book is nothing like that story. "A Shade in His Character" is well-written, suspenseful and depicts so well a conflictual, angsty Darcy and Elizabeth relationship that you are left wanting more (which unfortunately is not available - the story has seemingly been abandoned after just 6 chapters.) This book is poorly written and the Darcy and Elizabeth relationship is completely unbelievable. After reading other reviews, I should have known better. I deleted it from my iPad within minutes!

This short story had me laughing with pleasure. I love a good farce and the results of Caroline Bingley's attempts at "witchcraft" are hilarious and soooo well deserved. Great for a fun romp but sexually explicit.

Bargain with the Devil was so absurd it was actually quite funny. I was almost tempted to give it two stars, but could not in good conscious.

( Read in July of 2012 )

10/18/2016 Update: As I am much more liberal with my JAFF since 2012, I will re-read in the near future and update from that point of view.

I really enjoyed this book and am not sure why others do not, but everyone's welcome to their own opinions. I love the fact without giving too much away that we are lead to believe Darcy's a rake and out for revenge, which is not the case. I love how the book goes right to chase no waiting. I also love how the book just scene after scene gives intrigue and excitement. I even almost felt sorry for Caroline in this book, almost but not really.

You know people always complain about the push of propriety but Darcy and Elizabeth citing that's not what Jane Austen would have done. However, I disagree and believe that Jane Austen did allow some brush with propriety in this story as much as her society would probably allow. For instance, Darcy lingering in holding Elizabeth's hand wash definitely a breach of propriety. Darcy stating he liked to watch them (Caroline and Elizabeth) from a far was a breach of propriety, so we do not know if times were different what Darcy and Elizabeth were capable of.
