5.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Very Fine 60s British Pop 3 de marzo de 2011
Por Robert Keith - Publicado en Amazon.com
Formato: CD de audio Compra verificada
This is a very pleasant surprise. The CD begins with a few rough demos, which quickly becomes cool 60s beat. The latter part of the CD morphs into freakbeat-lite. The vocals are beautiful, cool and slightly understated. I could hear this in a mix with the Zombies, Georgie Fame, Beau Brummels and mid-60s Searchers. Although the recording quality varies from song to song, the writing is consistently very good.

4.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Ingoes - 'Before We Were Blossom Toes' (Sunbeam) 1 de octubre de 2013
Por Mike Reed - Publicado en Amazon.com
Formato: CD de audio
This is an import CD title that until very recently, I was completely unaware of. Ingoes - is notably a pre-Blossom Toes band. There's a CD title that I certainly never thought about ever getting to hear. Guitarist Brian Godding and bassist Brian Belshaw had started The Ingoes - and the rest is history as might would say. I have to say that I was definitely somewhat impressed with 'Before We Were Blossom Toes' mostly due to the fact that I had (no) idea whatsoever to expect. Tunes that I liked best were the laid-back "I Feel The Winter", the catchy "I Don't Want You", "Ready Packed People Of Today" (reminds me of the Beau Brummells), the Beatles-like "Mister Pitiful", the rocking "Pistol Packing Mama" and their Wilson Picket cover "In The Midnight Hour". Was sort of caught off guard with (both) their French and Italian versions of the Beatles smash hit "Help!". Don't believe I've ever heard that on a band's compilation CD. Do keep in mind that if you enjoyed the Blossom Toes proper releases, compilations and their must-have 'Love Bomb - Live 1967-69' 2-CD (see my review) - you should get a lot out of this disc.

5.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Blossom Toes story completed 15 de junio de 2010
Por Kevin D. Rathert - Publicado en Amazon.com

Sunbeam Records, UK, complete their series of releases covering the lifespan of the Blossom Toes, and their predecessor and post BTs incarnation as B.B. Blunder, with this the complete recordings of Blossom Toes precursor band, The Ingoes, whose Mark I lineup included the two musicians who would remain on board throughout the lifespan of the three bands from 1967 to 1971, guitarist/vocalist/songwriter "Little" Brian Godding and bassist/vocalist "Big" Brian Belshaw. The two are complemented by Eddie Lynch, the namesake of the cds opening track "Fast Eddie" on lead guitar and vocals. Lynch's abilities are quite evident, and in one of many paradoxes the best tracks on this cd may well indeed be those recorded with Lynch. The final ten tracks on this compilation contain lead guitar and vocal contributions from Lynch's replacement and future Blossom Toes, Jim Cregan, who would provide lead guitar and lots of songs to the BTs repertoire. However, in another paradox, The Ingoes like many of their contemporaries recorded sets of songs that were never or rarely played live and vice versa. Thus, the tracks with Cregan while including only one band original, Godding's first protest song, "Ready Packed People of Today" are important as they represent a band growing tighter and tighter musically, as in 1967, Godding, Belshaw, Cregan, and Kevin Westlake replacing Colin Martin, on drums came to play and record as Blossom Toes whose catalog is now bolstered by their two studio albums, a double disc of life material, and a full disc of rarities and unreleased material. As for "Before We Were Blossom Toes" as mentioned previously the most interesting musically are the opening tracks with original guitarist Eddie Lynch, but as a period piece the recordings done by the Godding/Cregan incarnation are essential. Two of the tracks included here are interesting covers of the Beatles classic "Help" done in French and Italian, where The Ingoes were quite well received, but none of whose members spoke either of the languages. A French EP release is included here as well as the singles released in France and Italy. For fans of 60s psych/prog rock this cd is an absolute must! The prequel to "We Are Ever So Clean" is finally available, and stands the test of time rather well on its own part. We are treated to the earliest recorded writings of the prolific Godding, and with the presence of Cregan, Godding moved seamlessly from rhythm guitar to a fine lead guitarist in his own right. This cd documents the beginnings of that transformation. While the run time is only a bit more than 42 minutes it is incredible that these recordings survived, in one source or another, for 45 years! Lovingly put together with extensive liner notes by Godding, and a plethora of previously seen photographs to finis out the package. Thanks to Brian Godding for painstakingly seeking out the best source materials available and to Sunbeam Records for doing the right thing and giving Blossom Toes fans a chance to not only mine the vaults for not only the BT's recordings but now both the precursor band on display here and the post-BTs band BB Blunder, available in exquisitely expanded double disc format. Fans of 1960s British rock, here's a band who escaped the microscope of Vernon Joynson in his majestic tome "Tapestry of Delights Revisited." That indicates rarity not quality. Because the quality here is certainly not in question. Three cheers to Brian Godding and Sunbeam Records for this "missing link" of British rock and roll.
