5.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Great Kettle - Good Deal 27 de junio de 2013

This review is based on the 6-1/4 qt. Beka Cookware Claudine Water kettle. I purchased this item for my wife who has a lung health issue whereby she can only drink boiled water. Our kettle is used frequently. This is a large kettle and you may want to consider the smaller 4 1/4 qt. unit for less boiled-liquid requirements.

QODVU / RATINGS

QUALITY / 10: The stainless steel is more than solid enough on the sides. However, it can be dinged and should not be stored with other pots/pans. It will require constant maintenance if you have minerals in your water - after all it is shined to a chrome-like finish. But this is not something the manufacturer would be able to correct.

OPERATION & FUNCTION / 10: Handle dissipates heat well, even after boiling, can pick up full kettle without a mitt. It provides good support. Easy to pour.

DESIGN / 9: Bottom is completely sealed (fused) to the kettle, not cheaply seemed. The bottom has sufficient added thickness to prevent burning the bottom in low water situations. Lid knob is cheaply attached, but has not broken or come off. I would have liked to see a much larger steam vent in the lid, vice the one very narrow and thin slit. With a full kettle, when the water boils, the lid lifts and lets out water vapor and sometimes a splash. But lower water levels may limit this somewhat.

VALUE / 9: The cost of this kettle is not cheap- but the quality is very high. If such a rating were possible, I would give the kettle an overall 4.5 stars - and so am rounding my rating up to a 5. Overall - it's a good deal (a great deal if it was a bit cheaper).

UPDATES: We bought this kettle over a year ago (so not at the date of the above rating). I will say that over a sixteen month period with daily use, it has performed well. and looks like it will last several years of heavy use. You can buy a cheaper kettle, as I did in the past - and if you use it continuously you will probably chunk it in six months. This product has been worth the steep price.

I'm an avid ice tea drinker and I agree with previous reviews that the 6 1/4 quart size is more than adequate. I didn't realize how big it was until I received it. The one size smaller would have been fine, but this one will do just as fine. I've used it several times now to brew jasmine green tea and I have no complaints on its functionality. I usually keep tea in it over a few days and there is no sign of rust. My previous teapot started showing signs of rust at about this point with tea sitting in the kettle so I am pleased with the Beka. It does take a while to boil due to the larger volume, but brewing good tea takes time.

A couple of notes to consider... The metal is not as thick as I thought that it would be at this price point, but there's issue at this point. Secondly, the kettle had a small ding near the bottom. It's not very noticeable and probably more related to quality control than anything else. The original packaging doesn't seem very sturdy. That's probably when the ding came into play. Cheaper kettle come much better packaged.

Other than the notes, I'm generally pleased with the purchase.

2.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas satisfied buying. The handle was not sturdy what-so-ever 6 de diciembre de 2014

I was very displeased with the kettle and it became the first item I have ever returned to Amazon after many years of successful, satisfied buying. The handle was not sturdy what-so-ever. Equally disappointing was the "shaky" lid. If pouring at nearly a 60-90 degree angle, the lid had no tightness to stay on. Mine almost seemed as though the lid was not the right one for that kettle - but that was the least of my concerns. Combined with the light weight of this stainless steel kettle, I knew it would not be long for a kitchen accident in my home. The light weight that is oft mentioned as a "Plus" with many buyers is 100% accurate but for this 40-something male, weight is not on the list of important features. Between the loose handle and lid, as well as the feather-like weight, I feel that for the $$, it was not of similar quality of similarly priced kettles, plain and simple.

I had looked for quite some time for a nice water kettle without a whistle because it is to be used on a wood stove. The enamel coated kettles I have had have a way of developing rust near the spout opening inside the kettle, as well as around the lid. This one is a good grade of stainless steel without being excessively heavy. It is well-balanced, the water pours smoothly from the spout with no drips and the lid is large enough to allow easy filling or getting your hand inside for cleaning, etc., if necessary. The handle is sturdy, stays upright, and made of stay-cool bakelite. I am extremely pleased with this purchase.

This kettle also comes in a 6 1/4 quart size.

Update February 10, 2014.

This teapot is still performing nicely after almost 3 years, and has no rust at any of the seams. The handle still stands straight up. While there are other folks who have complained about the lid being "so loose it falls off when pouring out the last of the water", I have to say "What lid stays on when you tip the pot about 150 degrees?" As for it spotting when you wash it, most shiny things will do that if you don't dry it, especially if your water is a little hard.

3.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Not the quality I expected for the price. 28 de agosto de 2011

This Beka Claudine Water Kettle, 4 1/4 quart, is an average stainless water kettle. It is lighter weight, spots easily (have to use a stainless liquid cleaner instead of dish detergent & hot water - dry it right away), and the price is steep for the quality. The lid doesn't stay on when you pour the last of the heated water; you have to hold it down. The design is great (the spout pours well). I just wish it was a better quality of stainless. (by the way, I hope the inside is stainless! It looks like a brushed aluminum material.) Don't know where it was made; I thought Belgium, as described on the Amazon description. Wish I had spent the money elsewhere.
