Dear Mr. Fienstein. On your last CD you criminally buried a fantastic singer far too low in the mix. The music however was epic! On this CD I swear when the first song came on you we're singing into a bullhorn as an effect. (Which for a moment I thought was cool) Then it became apparent that ALL the vocals were mixed like this. The TONE of the vocals is horrendous. When the much hyped DIO song came on....you mixed him the same as all the rest. You could barely tell it was one of if not THE greatest singers of all time. Where was the Dio ROAR?? The warmth and depth. Oh God "Rock" you screwed this up bad!! If you have ANY self respect you'll pull this and have it mixed by a REAL professional. I just am at a loss for words.... The only positive thing I can say about this is that the music is very "Rods"-like, shame about the vocals.

ok...I just got the album and have listened to it a few times...thers nothing special, but its a 'good' solid effort...though not 'great'. I know nothing about Feinstein but bought the album because I heard the Dio song 'metal will never die' on the cable tv metal station, and was curious to see whats up. Don't pay too much credit to the other reviews which state this album is muddled. Ya, for a sick guy with cancer...Ronnie sounds great...honestly, I think this song is as memorable and as good or better than anything from Sabbaths (Heaven & Hell) last album. As far as the other 8 songs...the vocals are fine...I can understand every word being said...apparently the couple other reviewers have never listened to 'metal'...alot of metal bands the vocals are so garbled it is impossible to make out a single word, they sound like they're just grunting into a microphone. And according to the liner notes Feinstein does everything but the drums (guitars, bass, and vocals)...there are some real good rythyms, hooks, catchy lyrics...again...a good job. Because of this I'll check out a Rods album.

2010's Bitten By the Beast is the latest solo offering from David "Rock" Feinstein, who is best known for his other band The Rods and his time in cousin Ronnie James Dio's band Elf. This album was released shortly after Dio's passing, and is particularly noteworthy for featuring the last recorded vocal performance by the legendary singer on the song "Metal Will Never Die."

Feinstein handles pretty much everything on Bitten By the Beast except the drums, and the result is an uncomplicated, old school heavy metal album that's not far removed from the average Rods release. It's very hard, very heavy, and very `80s sounding, all of which are good things. The songs are all fairly well put together, though not anything really special. As others have pointed out, the production, specifically the way the vocals are mixed, is flat-out terrible. Feinstein has never been known for his vocal ability, so it's obvious why the vocals would be so distorted, but to use those same effects on Ronnie James Dio's final performance ever is just obscene. You could barely tell it wasn't Feinstein singing. It all but ruined the best song on the album, and the reason a lot of folks picked up the disc in the first place (especially since you can't just buy that one song digitally).

In the end, what should have been a totally solid heavy metal album was turned into a barely tolerable one. Buy it if you're a die-hard Rods fan or just really want to hear that Dio song (and even then the new Very Beast of Dio volume 2 is a better bet), but don't expect too much from Bitten By the Beast. Fortunately, Feinstein got back on track with a proper Rods album (Vengeance) in 2011.

I must admit, I never heard of this guy until one day I was brousing down the list at YouTube and noticed this song called "Metal Will Never Die". The Real eye opener about it was that it featured Ronnie James Dio on Vocals. I also noticed the year: 2010. That's the year he died (R.I.P.). I t must have been his final function as a heavy rock vocalist. Anyway, I clicked on to it, and the song was "Blazing" I immediately ordered it from you guys, and as I listened to it I found that I liked the entire CD. There were two other songs that I liked just as much as "Metal Will Never Die". They were "Give Me Mercy" and "Kill the Demon". Actually, I think That one (K.T.D.) would have made a Fantastic closing track for the CD. I would definately reccomend it to any "Heavy Rock" fan.
