This is true, but be careful!
This charger is rated with an output of 5v at 700mA. Many devices ship an OEM AC adapter outputting 5V at 1,000mA.
I'll be using this with a Sprint HTC Evo 4G which normally uses a 1,000mA adapter. What it means is a slightly longer charging time for the battery. More than likely not important for the vast majority of people, but a few might object for one reason or another.
Build quality on this Blackberry branded adapter is moderate. Mine has a distinct rattle.
Design is okay. Folding prongs, compact wall wart body, long attached cable with a microUSB connector.
Overall a tremendous value, especially if you have Amazon Prime, but double-check the specs on your device to make sure 700mA output will work for you.
Well, it conked out on me at around 7 months. Maybe that's still a good investment for you, but not necessarily if you're sticking with Android phones long-term (in which case you could use this or most any micro usb with almost any device). What happened for me is that the metal tip was a bit fragile & started bending somehow (I only used this at home, so it wasn't put under travel stress...) For a while now, it has been almost impossible to get it to stay in my phone. Seriously; I swear it falls out if I so much as LOOK at it now. However, for the price, it still isn't a terrible deal...but between connection problems and the fact that its charging rate has actually dramatically decreased, even when connected, i think it's time to say goodbye.
Best few bucks I've spent in a long time. I only wish I had purchased this sooner. Does exactly what you expect it to (charges, and quickly at that). The cord is nice and long, much better than the one I got with my phone. I kept struggling with one of those combo micro-usb cable ones (the kind that you can plug directly into your computer) that had a separate wall charger attachment, and it was a nightmare. I decided to stick with the more basic style of this one because there are fewer places for it to lose the connection, and I'm very glad that I did. I can get a cheapo usb cable by itself separately if I want to connect to the computer. For charging purposes alone, this little guy is absolutely worth it. PS - I have an LG (T-Mobile) MyTouch Q, and this was fully compatible with my phone.
Cons: The prongs "jiggle" a bit when folded up
This is the only reason I gave it 4 star instead of 5, because I do not know if this will cause problems down the road, but I am also aware that it may just be a single incident of the issue, and I just received one that had "loose" folding prongs. Having said that, I have used it for a couple months know, and had no problems with any charging ability, which is the whole purpose of the unit. The rattling when the prongs are folded up is just more of an annoyance. If it let me, I would've given it a 4.5 star rating, but it doesn't allow for 1/2 * ratings, so I'm just letting you know here in the review itself.
And for the record, I bought this charger to use with my BlackBerry 9700, and it is the correct charger for it.
Bottom line, if you can get it for the $4.99 I paid (or better) and through Amazon.com so you get the free shipping, I cannot imagine you'll find a better deal!
Update: looked at the older charger versus the new one I bought. Old blackberry charger had a 6' cord, this one about 4'. Old blackberry charger was 700mA and this one says .75A. Model numbers are the same on both chargers. RIM part number is not the same.
