I struggled with the idea of returning it, since I had already unpacked it, and also struggled with whether I should take it some place to have it repaired after paying $189.00 for a product that was supposed to be in perfect condition. Well, I decided to give it a try since I needed the bench, so I went to my tool box, got two adjustable wrench keys and pull on the steel part while holding the other part of the piece, and sitting on the rest of the frame (all this on carpet though) and I worked on it for about 10 minutes (I am a small but strong woman, although not much arm muscles/strength sadly... :(...) so... it finally gave in enough to make the rest of the frame fit in the bottom part, and the rest of the putting the bench together was pretty simple after that. I followed all the instructions, it is easy to put together all by yourself if all the parts are in perfect condition. I am enjoying my new bench now. The Bench is sturdy, and I bought it mainly to work the abs, and the upper arms and it works perfectly for that. Perhaps if I lived in the US I wouldn't gone through the trouble of fixing it, but I am glad it worked out well.
My suggestion for Amazon, is to make sure the products you sell from all your sellers are in good condition.
My suggestion for the customer is to unpack it nicely and make sure all the parts are there in perfect condition, before attempting to put it all together. It is a good product if it is in good condition. I think mine had a factory defect which should have not happened, but all is well now and I am glad I kept it.
1) I do chest presses (flat and incline) using an olympic bar and an old Parabody power rack. With the Weider, I was able to get the bench positioned so I could perform those exercises using the power rack. But with the Bowflex, I can't get the bench far enough inside the power rack to use the olympic bar due to its large footprint... meaning the way the legs stick out so far.
2) When I work out with dumbbells, it's somewhat cumbersome to get situated when holding heavy weights (e.g. 80 lbs DBs) due to the wide seat and the way the leg supports are designed. You have to step over the legs to get positioned.
As I mentioned, I bought this to replace the Weider bench, but I think I'm going to stay with Weider.
