Sound: It sounds very good. Not tremendous on the bass, but a good midrange unit with good sound overall. The bass is more absent at lower volumes than at higher ones. The volume is loud enough that the kids at the same table complained it was too loud at its highest setting. Certainly head and shoulders above my phone speaker and listenable as background music. There are better more expensive units if you want premium sound.
Look and Feel: It is a neat looking unit in a matt finish. It is a little bigger than my hand (see video) and feels solid but not heavy. There is a flap that covers the ports on one side. It covers them solidly but there is no snap or detent to tell you it is in place. So you just trust that it is after you press it in place. On one side are four buttons (on/off, play/pause/pair, up volume/next track, down volume/prior track). The buttons are a bit hard to press - it is certainly the case you'll have to hold the unit in one hand while pressing with the other. I would have preferred some buttons on the top. It comes packaged in a very fancy transparent package that makes it feel quite upscale, but that package is a little difficult to open and the unit a small puzzle to remove. Once out, you realize the package is a bit overkill and I felt it was a bit wasteful for them to spend so much on it just to see it go in the trash.
Function: Hold the power button (you’ll need some force to overcome the rubber) and you hear a nice bass tone to tell you the unit is on. Hold in the play button (use your strongest finger!) until the tone for pairing and then pair it with your phone. It paired easily with my phone once I rebooted my Lumia 635. The play and volume buttons work as they do with most Bluetooth devices. Press quickly for one function (pause/stop, volume up, volume down) and hold for another (pair, skip track, previous or beginning of track). Did I mention the buttons are a little hard to press? Since you can’t hold in the volume button without changing the track, you have to press repeatedly to change the volume, which is a small pain. Lastly, with my Bluetooth headphones, if I press the power button briefly while on I invoke Cortana or Google Play (depending which phone I use); this unit does not do that. It was frustrating as I see it as something next to the pool or shower and I’d like to be able to change the artist using this function without having to get my phone wet.
Battery/Energy: It says it lasts 24 hours and can charge devices. I’ve played it for hours and it indicates there is way more than half left (there are lights on one side that activate with a button press) but cannot verify 24 hours. But that is believable. It can easily charge my phone, which is less than half the capacity that this unit has.
Waterproof: It says it is waterproof to 1 meter for 30 minutes. Please see my video where I tested it in a large bowl of water. It worked well. You have to be sure the port cover is on. To take the video I recorded myself beforehand and played that recording through the speaker. I listened to myself as I videoed and put the speaker in on my own cue. It still played when it was slightly under water but I couldn’t hear it when it was at the bottom of the bowl. You’ll see me let it float up; that was so I could hear where I was in the video. The unit did float. It worked just fine after the test, although there was some minor wetness under the flap.
Overall a good unit that, as far as I can tell, delivers on its promises. I think it is an excellent value. It isn’t five stars because the buttons are somewhat hard to press and I can’t use my digital assistant.
Very handy as battery charger also if travelling frequently.
