Reseña del editor
Provides 365 interlocking meditations that consider the joys of living in conversation with God and guide readers on a path of personal discovery that includes reflections on love, kindness, suffering, and religious faith. Reprint.
"I found myself writing about Jesus, the center of my faith. And then, to my surprise, I was asking myself, How do we become connected with Jesus? Soon I found myself writing about Word and Sacrament. But where are they held? In the Church. I had never before written about the Church! It seemed an unsafe subject to talk about, but here I was breaking through my own fears and apprehensions. The question became, Where is the Church supposed to lead us? What about death, the resurrection, the communion of saints, heaven, hell, the second coming of Christ, and the end of times?... And so I wrote, faster and faster. By the time December came, I had written 387 reflections, even though a year has only 365 or 366 days. When I started rereading them all, I realized that I had 'used' the yearbook to express my faith and write my own creed!"---from the IntroductionVer Descripción del producto

On May 14, 2006, I called my husband and asked him to come in my office. I said, "Tom, you must come hear this!" and he did. I read the following to him:
"Praying to Die Well
Many people say, "I am not afraid of death, but I am afraid of dying." This is quite understandable, since dying often means illness, pain, dependency, and loneliness.
The fear of dying is nothing to be ashamed of. It is the most human of all human fears. Jesus himself entered into that fear. In his anguish "sweat fell to the ground like great drops of blood" (Luke 22:44). How must we deal with our fear of dying? Like Jesus we must pray that we may receive special strength to make the great passage to new life. Then we can trust that God will send us an angel to comfort us, as he sent an angel to Jesus."
Beautiful, right? Very beautiful. Less than 6 hours later, my husband, while having a late lunch with me, sitting at our table, physically died - without pain, just left planet earth. I quickly called to him, "Tom, Tom, remember Henri this morning. Remember him! You have an angel to comfort you, remember this morning?" He was gone.
So you know how much I believe this man, this Henri Nouwen, is timely. I am Catholic but he has long been the favorite of many of my Protestant friends. This book is for everyone. You must own it.
"Bread for the Journey" is perhaps his best--a day-by-day opportunity to have contact with Our Maker, to appreciate our blessings, to come to grips with our flaws, to seek forgiveness for mistaken choices, and to use our gifts to serve others.
Fr. Nouwen's book is indeed what its title states...Bread for the Journey!
