Let me start off by saying i'm not a shaving brush expert by any stretch of the imagination, but this Semogue 830 is just awesome at any price point! I'm a newbie at this old style shaving technique, but within 30 seconds of whipping, I had a fantastic thick creamy lather! I've now had this brush for 2 weeks, and the brush tips are already baby skin soft. The knot and loft of this brush is perfect, giving you a nice full brush for whipping up great lather. The boar bristles stand firm and don't splay out like some of the badger brushes do.
I first soak my Semogue 830 in warm water for about 1 minute. I then squeeze out most of the water, and load up the soap onto my brush by swirling it 15-20 times on the soap. Then I take the brush to a separate lathering bowl where I add a few finger drops of water and then whip it into a nice thick creamy lather. This brush doesn't care which shave soap you use, i've tried Prorasso and the cheap Williams and it lathered both into nice thick creamy lathers.
So far I only lost 3 hairs, and it seems to not be shedding. I love the clear acrylic handle, it gives it a touch of class. Also, some of the reviewers talk about animal smells...not sure what hey are smelling, but my brush had absolutely no odor. My wife also could not detect any odors. My brush was purchased thru Nelson's Barbershop on Amazon. Check out my pics and you can see the lather I am getting from the different soaps. It also fits in my Fento chrome stand as shown. All in all, i'm very impressed with this brush and now look foward to shaving every day.

I am a brush user and I prefer boar brushes. This is one of the best. I have six semogue brushes and about the same number of Omega boar brushes. I love them both, but there are differences. The Omegas do not tend to open or bloom their bristles as much as the Semogues. I tend to prefer that slightly. However, the Semogues, when broken in, produce incredible lather. The Semogue 830 is no exception. It has a beautiful, heavy solid handle, and nice soft bristles that are firm enough to produce great lather while also being soft to the face. All Semogues have good, sturdy handles. That isn't true with Omegas where the cheaper ones often have hollow, plastic handles. I can highly recommend any Semogue brush. They are very well made, don't shed many bristles, have great ability to produce lather, and they will last forever if handled properly.

5.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Requires break-in, but it's worth the wait 10 de abril de 2017

I've held off on reviewing this brush since I knew there would be some break-in period for the brush. I have other brushes that I use and I shave 3 times a week, so on average I probably use this once a week. The first shave barely generated any lather which what I was kind of expecting. The second and third shave didn't really show much improving. I really wanted to enjoy this brush since I love the way it looks. So in order to speed up the break in process I started just hand lathering every other day and was cleaning with shampoo and conditioner once a week. I would say sometime between the 30th and 40th lather I noticed it really performing like I was hoping. I can now say that I truly enjoy using this brush. It's not hard enough to irritate, but it gives a nice light scrub that helps simulate the skin. If you're looking to purchase this brush, don't expect the best lather right away. Hand lather a few dozen times and then give it a fair evaluation.

5.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Boar Brushes have their place at the sink 28 de diciembre de 2014

This is my first boar bristle brush. I have a few badger hair brushes which are very soft, but don't have the stiffness required to work up hard soap lathers. This is a beautifully old world crafted boar's bristle brush that is a pleasure to use. it has the stiffness I needed to work up hard soap lather and really work it into my whiskers. This Semogue 830 Premium Boar Bristle Shaving Brush is so nice I ordered its "big brother," the 1305.

4.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas My favorite natural hair brush. 8 de abril de 2016

My first brush, as many others have experienced, was a Van Der Hagen boar brush I picked up at Wally World. It shed way too much. I next purchased a Tweezerman Men's shaving brush before I got the Semogue. The Tweezerman is a low quality, mass produced item made in Korea that is made for many manufacturers. They just slap on a different label. Hence it sheds horribly. The Semogue however, is a quality item skillfully made in Portugal just for one company. I have experienced only minor shedding. If you are going to kill an animal for its bristles at least do the creature justice and a fix the hairs securely so the animal has a long afterlife. Semogue respects the sacrifice so that you can shave off your human bristles to appear civilized. I also have a synthetic brush which almost never sheds; however, the hairs are too soft and don't whip up the lather as well as the Semogue. Get a synthetic for conscience, get a Semogue if you have to have a natural hair brush.
