Reseña del editor

Buried in the red soil of the Oklahoma prairie is a stone statue of a striking young woman broken into a hundred pieces-a broken statue representing shattered lives and crushed dreams. The story of the statue is one of love, greed, power, and lost aspirations. The statue symbolizes what was and what could have been-a tale of a great oil empire betrayed, destroying the lives of the family who built it. The Broken Statue is an intriguing story based on the real-life legacy of the Marland Mansion and the statue still located within its walls. E.W. Marland's spectacular rise to power and the tragic legend of Lydie Marland featured extraordinary characters representing opportunities and opportunities lost during the gilded age of the early oil industry.

5.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas An Amazing Book! 15 de febrero de 2010

I couldn't get the books character's out of my head! I'd think of them long after I had book the book down. I grew up in Oklahoma. My mom and dad worked for oil companies. I'd visited Ponca City, but like everybody, when you live somewhere, you hardly ever visit the museums in your own state. When I started reading the Broken Statue I knew it was a work of fiction, but I was interested in seeing, just what was fiction and what was true. I was astounded, at just how much in the book was TRUE! I became fascinated at doing more and more research, so I got on the internet and looked up the what I could on the Marlands!! Because I was reading the book on a Kindle, I didn't get the details from the author on what was true and what wasn't until the end, which was good, because it force me to to do some digging! I thoroughly enjoyed this book, as I did the author's book, Mimosa Lane. Now I can't wait to get to Ponca City so I can visit the Marland Mansion. Thanks you Mr. Perry for another great book!

This book was well written; it held my interest so much that I could not put it
down until I had finished reading the whole book! The historic information and
the characters were supposed to be fictional, but it coincided with actual history and people so that it made it really exciting. I would highly recommend it to any one, especially history buffs, interested in early days of Oklahoma.
Bob Perry has several other books, and we purchased them at a book signing prior to purchasing
The Broken Statue from Amazon. They were all great!!!!

If you are from Ponca City, Oklahoma this is a must-have. Wonderful fiction story based around true facts from the glory days of Ponca when Marland was trying to make Ponca America's newest cultural city in the Midwest. I'm not a big fan of historical fiction but I couldn't put this down. Very entertaining story line but compelling when you realize these were true, larger than life individuals that the events center around. After finishing the book I had to go online to read even more about the non-fiction characters.

Excellent blend of true History with a what if fictional account surrounding the real events. The characters of Charlie and his best friend Walt help draw us into the Marland story. one roots for them and they serve as the conduit to the mysterious, independent, sassy, and tragic Lydie. Good book to get your feet wet with if you are not familiar with E.W.Marland and Lydie Marland of Oklahoma. Can not wait for the movie based on this to come out, Ends Of The Earth, staring Jennifer Lawrence. Book serves as a nice slice of life in the 1910s-1940s, and a Progressive mover and shaker, E.W.Marland, who did much to aid the citizens of Ponca City.

This was my first Bob Perry Book. I learned a lot about Ponca City Oklahoma and it makes you want to visit. I read a lot and love Erik Lawson and this reminds me of his books with a little fiction thrown in. Very informative and enjoyable!
