To be brutally honest, I thought it was a gimmick. No way this little strip of activated charcoal in a thin cardboard box would really make that much of a difference. But I put in the one that came with the refrigerator when we bought it, and about four months later the little light on the door lit saying the air filter needed to be replaced. I checked the refrigerator, everything seemed fine, so I reset the air filter light and went on my way. That worked well for another month or two. Then, gradually, the smells started. Not that they were overwhelming, or excessively foul, just not...right. Mind you, we didn't have any spoiled food in the refrigerator, nothing in there more than 4 days old, all bought fresh. But there was a noticeable difference when you opened up the refrigerator when the air filter stopped working.
Then my wife asked me when I had replaced the air filter.
I'm quite happy with the performance of the replacement air filters. They don't seem to have a noticeable impact when they're working right, but when they stop working you can tell the difference. Can't complain about the price when compared to other vendors, shipping was fast and easy, and the filters are simple to replace.
But - it does seem to get the job done, and it's a more elegant solution than a box of baking soda in the back of the fridge. It seems overpriced to me, but I'll probably keep buying them anyway.
