The Tank picks up "stout" for your phone. I recommend going to the CASE-MATE website and reviewing the videos for iPhone 4 / 4S Tank Cases.
Tank installs easily. Remove the bottom of the case, insert your phone, and replace the bottom of the case. The case does not take away from the ease of operating your phone. Buttons, speaker, etc. operate normally. The mute switch is a little hard to get to depending on the size of your fingers but not an issue. The belt clip rotates 180 degrees and will function as a stand on a reasonably level surface.
On the downside, the belt clip is awkward and uncomfortable. I do not know how this could be fixed. I wear my phone clipped in a front pocket which is better, but I generally wear jeans not dress pants. The protective screen sliding cover is not as durable as I would have thought from the manufacturer videos. Lastly, much like other "rugged" cases it does not fit in most iPhone docks. However, it comes apart easily by removing the bottom if need be.
Finally, this is a fairly new product. If it turns out to be as good as I would like, I will buy another for my next phone as will the rest of you. If it does not perform well, it will go away and I will purchase something else next time around.
If you're curious about where your products come from ...
Case-Mate, Inc. was formerly known as Case-Ari, LLC. The company was founded in 2005 and is based in Tucker, Georgia.
UPDATE: So I have owned this case for about 11/2 weeks now and my initial observation was that This was the end all be all of cases. Last night, however, I noticed a crack on the side of the case. I had NOT dropped the phone or bumped it hard in any way. A close inspection of the cracked area revealed that the plastic is extremely thin. In fact, WAY TO thin!!!! The concept of this case is dead on but the production is lacking. Now I will contact Amazon and see if they will do anything. Will post update when I hear from amazon.
I had very high hopes for this unit as the design makes sense. I suppose adding a sofer silicone exterior could have saved it from cracking.
I processed the return on-line and will be dropping at UPS today after having received my Otterbox selection. While this unit is more sleek and does not seem as manly as the tank, the silicone design is less likely to be a problem. Time will tell.
In addition to the shock protection the sliding screen protection is a stroke of genius... I can throw it in my purse or seat in the car and not be concerned that the screen will damage.
Additionally for those women who wear any-type of makeup on a hot day.... the screen protection keeps your face off the screen leaving the makeup and sweat on the sliding screen protection and not on the phone itself. When it gets too gross, its fairly easy to clean.
My quarrel however is with the right side of the case. There is a weak point on the black plastic where the screen protector slides that can break if too much pressure is applied or it suffers a bad drop. While irritating that I have had to purchase 4 replacements... its still better than the glass on the phone breaking. I have written into the company to let them know. Its almost as if it needs reinforcement in that spot specifically.
