Descripción del producto
Carrie Hughes is a widowed mom, living in a rural Michigan town and raising her children, Nora and Gabriel, alone after her firefighter husband Tim dies on duty. As she grieves, she reaches out to meet new friends, including an older widow, Judy. Carrie takes a trip to visit Judy's small Wisconsin town, and goes to shop for a cedar memory chest for her late husband. David Hensel, a salesman at his family's quaint Amish furniture shop, lost his wife Sarah to cancer two years before. He works long hours, still paying off her medical bills while raising his young son. When Carrie and David meet, they share an immediate bond. Both are trying to live out their Christian faith after losing a spouse, dealing with the pain of loneliness. They soon begin a long-distance correspondence, learning to laugh again- and love again. But after David commits a sin he regrets, can he still become the loving man of faith Carrie needs? Can teenage Nora accept her mother's need for love again? A story of love, loss and forgiveness.
Julianne Munich lives in Hayward, Wisconsin with her husband and three children. She enjoys writing, cooking, photography, 'mommy blogging,' singing in the community choir, and serving in her church. She works as a staff substitute at her local schools. 'The Cedar Chest' is her first novel.

Sweet, adorable romance novel!

This was a really adorable, sweet romance! I loved that the characters were so believable, likable, and REAL - the women did not have "glossy raven hair", the man did not have "chiseled features and rippling abs." They were just two very real, NORMAL people (both cute but a little pudgy - aren't we all?) trying to navigate life and romance after the deaths of their long-time spouses. My favorite part was when they both kind of liked each other and had a little crush on each other, but thought the other probably just saw them "as a friend," and they were both being friendly and trying to be a little flirty, but were really shy and awkward and insecure and "adorkable" about it. Really, really sweet! The problems they faced were realistic (a teenage daughter who resents the man "trying to take her dad's place", etc.). I also liked the supporting cast of friends and family - everything was very relatable . Speaking as a non-Christian, I feel that for the most part, the Christianity handled well - it was simply part of who these people are and part of their lives. They go to church on Sunday, they ask their pastor for advice, they pray in times of sadness or confusion. Christianity was also something that both of them shared, so it was something they had in common, which obviously is important in a relationship - you want someone who shares your interests/values/beliefs. There were only one or two moments where the Christian theme was a little too heavy-handed for my tastes, but only a couple of moments, and easily skipped over. So, not a problem. And of course, the Christian readership will enjoy it thoroughly! So overall, a very sweet, relatable romance with very likable characters. Very enjoyable!

I don't read much in the way of romance or Christian literature, so this book was a bit off-genre for me in more ways than one. That being said, I was pleasantly surprised by just how much I liked it. The romance aspect was sweet and realistic without ever feeling cheesy; the main characters were relatable and easy to root for. And although their faith was integral to the story, it never felt like an agenda was being pushed. Overall a very easy and enjoyable read.

This was a sweet & loving story about 2 people getting together after there spouces deaths. Definitely a 5 star. It took a twist that points out that we are not perfect & can work together to forgive & work things out.
