I just purchased this Spotting scope and had the opportunity to use it at the shooting range today. While waiting on the range to open up, I pulled the scope out and set it up on the top of the car. The range officers shack is about 200 yds from where I was parked, with the scope set on 60 power I was able to clearly read the parking sign 1.5' x 1' attached to the shack. On the range itself set on 20-30 power I could very clearly see the bullet impacts on the target. These targets were not the splatter type but standard 100yd. sight in targets. I was shooting on the 100yd. range with a Ruger HB 10/22 lr. and a Savage HB 22 mag. The optics are nice and clear up to about 50 power then turn a little fuzzy at 60 power, but not so much that 60 is unusable. Eye relief is mediocre and the roll down eye cup does have a tendency to pop back out, but these couple of minor things should not be considered a deal breaker by any means. It comes with a nice aluminum hard case and an extra carry bag that fits both tripod and scope which have their own seperate compartments. The tripod is powder coated and has a fairly wide footprint and seemed pretty stable sitting on the shooting bench. My purchase price for this scope was $68.00 on sale from mid 80's. I do quite a bit of target shooting and have had the opportunity to use different scopes from cheapo's to $400.00 models, and I personally consider this to be a very good buy. Do yourself a favor and give one a try. I've included a few pictures of it also.

Great value for the money. We use ours for bird watching and just enjoying the view. I couldn't justify spending a lot of money and this fits the bill perfectly. At 20x the image is clear and bright and there is sufficient eye relief for comfort. I really like the highly geared focus roller which gives you great accuracy. As you zoom in to 40x and 60x the image becomes rapidly murkier and eye relief diminishes too. You also have to re-focus. I guess it's these higher magnifications you have to pay the big bucks for, in a larger objective lens and better all round optics. But do you need it? It's amazing what you can see at 20x when the image is as good as this. The moon looks fantastic too.

You absolutely need a better tripod than the one supplied. You need a rock solid tripod or the scope will tremble in the slightest breeze, and you need to be able to move the tripod easily, it's hopeless on a table. I use the tripod I have for a video camera and it's perfect. A good pan & tilt head is really helpful, but, hey, you're not spending much on the scope itself...

Very pleased with the level of visual sharpness. Given the price point as well as reviews expressing concern about the lack of visual clarity, I was not expecting too much. I am pleased to report that I can easily observe at 60X, from about 160 yards, the waffle tread pattern on a neighbor's stepladder that he left outside. I have not tried it as a spotting scope for shooting yet, but I think it will suit my purposes out to 200 yards or so. For this price, you can't afford NOT to try it...

3/2/17 Update
While I still believe this is a good starter scope, I notice that the price has nearly doubled since when I purchased it for $45. Not such a good deal anymore. In addition, I have noticed that light transmission becomes very dark at the higher magnification and makes it difficult to "spot" smaller objects at distance.

My current assessment is that this makes a good starter scope when offered at a decent price. At just shy of $100 currently, I think there are better options out there.

5.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Very Nice View for the Price ... 9 de febrero de 2013

I normally view both terrestrial and astronomical objects with a TeleVue or a Vixen, so I wasn't expecting too much from this little 60mm spotting scope. Well, all I can say is that I was pleasantly surprised when I looked through this Celestron.

The image at the lower, more used powers are quite sharp edge-to-edge, especially considering that this eyepiece is a zoom (normally "ugh"). Even cranked up to the top, rarely used 60x maximum, this little critter delivered a useful image.

Mine came packed inside of a nice, divided nylon field case snuggled inside of a stout aluminum hard case. Nice touch. The little table top tripod is wiggly, but would be OK on a picnic bench or large rock. I recommend using it on a larger, heavier photo tripod or fluid head tripod, as the clarity of the view deserves a good anchor.

Upon receiving the scope I was suprised at the size. Its actually pretty small. BUT- it is packaged nicely. It came in its original packaging, and was also inside a soft case inside a hard latched case. The coating that has been put on the entire scope is nice. It provides a comfortable grip and protects the scope itself. My husband and I took it to the range to shoot our m4 and AR15. We were both very impressed at its zoom capability. We were able to CLEARLY see the impact sight on a 25 meter 50 meter and 100 meter target. Obviously you can't see the impact sight further out at 800m and 1000m , but were able to zoom in close enough that it felt like 100 m target. The tripod, that also comes with it, has a ridged coating over it and is easily attachable to the scope .
CONS:
The tripod could be a little more sturdy. Its not plastic, which is good..it appears to be some sort of metal with a resin coating, and has a good amount of weight to it but the legs are thin and the wind will blow it over.

I don't like that the lens covers aren't attached to the scope itself. They remove and you have to put them in the case. We lost our rear cover the first day we used it due to high winds.

Unfortunatly when you zoom in to its max, it does greatly reduce your field of view within the scope, BUT its clear and workable.
