This was an amazing book. Can be done in one sitting as I was able to finish it in about 6 hours I think? V riveting read. Super interesting family indeed and the writing took you for a ride. The chapter about tonsils was extremely hilarious and needs to feature in a movie asap! Doesn’t have much to do with the 2004 movie except for number of children really but you’ll laugh lots, gasp at the incredulity of it all and cry especially towards the end. V happy I read this. Only downvote is the number of typos which made it hard to read sometimes and the chapters aren’t really cohesive nor chronological but seemed to follow a topic per chapter convention which made for an enjoyable read either way. Would recommend! Also discovered the joy of reading on kindle; word definitions right there in the app! Considering reading the sequel!

Loved this book on several levels. It is a sweet story of family life from 1905 onwards. It is an insight into the lives of two very important influencers in the development of mass production, the Gilbreths, and also it stimulates thought on making learning fun and useful. Apart from one racist reference, forgivable in the context if the time, this is a wonderful book. Attitudes to professional women have come a long way from what they had to put up with then.
