Reseña del editor

This volume contains the several addresses delivered on the occasion of the Centennial Celebration of the incorporation of Littleton. The committee having the preparations for that event in charge, assigned to various gentlemen papers covering nearly the entire history of the town. Of these, that on the Relations of Littleton and Vermont, originally assigned to John M. Mitchell, was prepared by F. J. Eastman, of Northfield, N. H. ;that on Education, assigned to Warren Mclntire, by Dana P. Dame; that on ,M erchants and Trade, assigned to C. F. Eastman, by William J. Bellows. A paper on The Women of Littleton, assigned to Hon. Harry Bingham, was not prepared owing to a pressure of other public engagements, but an address delivered at the Congregational Church by Rev. Charles E. Millen, on the same subject, is printed herewith, as it was originally prepared for this volume. The closing paper was prepared by the late A dams Moore, M.D., and delivered as a lecture in the vestry of the Congregational Church in the winter of 1859. The celebration of the Centennial of Littleton was suggested in the local papers in February, 1884. At the annual town meeting, held in March of that year, the subject was discussed and the following resolution adopted: Resolved, That the sum of three hundred dollars be raised and appropriated to defray the expenses of a Centennial Celebration of the corporate existence of Littleton, said sum not to be paid out unless the citizens of the town raise and pay over to the appropriate committee a like sum.
