When it comes to food I've always been pretty clueless as to how you should combine ingredients and flavours to create a good dish. I had a basic outline of what you should and shouldn't eat as a result of some brief internet research but that's pretty much where it ended. I've always known all these ridiculous diets that circle around the web to be a pile of trash and I've never shown interest in them because I saw what effects (or lack thereof) they had on people.
So when you see a book with the word "Diet" in the title, you think its just another one of those fads, but this really isn't. Its not even a diet or a strict set of rules, or some guy in a suit trying to sell you magic weight loss herbs. Its just a simple guideline on what you should and should not eat, backed up by plenty of scientific evidence and just plain common sense.
You don't NEED to wake up at 6 AM every morning and run 50 kilometres. The book just says it would be nice to exercise and why. You don't NEED to drink a litre of broccoli juice five times per day to reach your goals. This book just suggests that you eat a good amount of veggies. Its simple, straight to the point and its not forcing you into anything.
The recipes, of which there are more than you'll ever be able to make, are awesome and you can definitely enjoy numerous unique meals every day and still have something new to try when you wake up the next. So whether you want to lose weight, get clearer skin, or just be the best, healthiest version of yourself that you can be and you don't exactly know how to get there, just read this and you'll get the idea.
It has a 14 day meal plan to get you started. I always like this when I am starting out because it is easier for me to get into the swing of things. The part I found the most interesting about this book was the information about food pairings. It tells you what foods can be combined to get the maximum nutritional value out of the foods. This is something that I didn't know much about before so I was excited to learn something completely new. I would recommend this book if you're interested in starting to eat healthy and get rid of all the processed food that so many of us have come accustomed to eating.
If you are serious, this book shows you how; from understanding the goals, through planning – including the shopping list for the market – to a two-week menu plan.
The back of the book is stuffed with compliant recipes. You won’t be disappointed in the eclectic selection, but start with the Lentil and Sweet Potato Stew; it will get you off on the right taste bud as you start the journey in Clean Eating.
